Extended warranty/service contract

Thoughts about purchasing a extended warranty contract? We have a 2010 Fleetwood Revolution and so far have been very lucky with failures/breakdowns. Last week our 3rd air conditioner was blowing hot air and after investigating the cost of replacing a compressor I started to look into contracts. Several companies offer service with a wide range of cost. Thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Feel free to use our search feature and you'll find a ton of threads on this topic. It's a very common debate and responses are all over the map.

I've participated in many of those discussions and a few of my take aways have been:

*It's not a warranty. It's a service plan/insurance policy.

*Don't buy one thinking it is an investment you hope to "come out ahead" on. You probably won't... these companies are in business to make money and they do.

*Don't buy one while a new coach is still under factory warranty.

*Don't buy one from the RV dealer. There is a very large mark up on these.

*Folks who say they have been happy with their EW most often say they bought it for "peace of mind".

*Do your homework. Complaints about EW companies doing everything in their power to deny claims and/or nickle and dime the customer are very common. Find the right company.

*Nearly all EW's pay only for actual failures of some part. They do not cover maintenance items... ie: caulking, etc.

We bought one with our new DP in 2007 and I've been very happy with EasyCare. In fact the coach is in the shop right now having the front slide bearings and slide locks replaced and EasyCare pre approved the entire thing minus my $50 deductible.

Best of luck. We're glad you found us.
