Filling holes in frame

I am getting ready to use/install a Reese's chain weigh distribution hitch. I believe I am going to have to move my propane tanks forward about 6 inches to allow for the frame chain support brackets to properly fit. To fill the original holes holding the propane platform should I just put bolts in them or fill them with some JB weld or some other filler material?

Doesn’t matter your personal preference.

Ok to understand...your propane tank is mounted at the rear of the RV? And you need to move the tank to allow attaching a tow bracket of some kind?

Or, you have a trailer that has propane tanks on the tongue and the weight equalization chain attachments will be in the way?

Anyway...what holes - the ones holding propane tank straps?

Filling holes with JB Weld is certainly not the best means. If you have to fill them, a welded patch / plug is best. But why do you need to fill them at all? Unless the holes are in structural steel and the weld heat will untemper it...

How about a picture to fill in the gaps? The answer is dictated in understanding the problem for sure.

Just leave them be or put bolts in.

If the frame is closed tubing, ( box beam ), seal the holes with bolts or set screws to keep water out..

If its open frame, and water will not collect, paint the holes to prevent rust.

Thanks I will Just install some bolts to fill the holes. It seems like the simplest solution.

If it's open, just paint them & leave the holes alone, a bolt will obscure the surface and allow water & road dirt (read:salt) to collect in the crevices where it can work on the metal unseen. Seems that less would be more, it can be rinsed off and any corrosion would be evident much sooner.

These holes are on a closed frame near the ball hitch the frame is approximately 2 1/2" wide and 5" deep. They will be on the top side.
