I'm very glad nobody got hurt!
This got me thinking about whether thermal imaging cameras have come down to a reasonable level. I just did a brief look and the cheapest I saw was about $380. Too rich for my blood but maybe a work camper could buy one and sell an inspection service.
I like the suggestion to use the little infra-red temperature gun with the laser pointer. I have one of those that I bought at Harbor Freight a while back for something like $30, great for quick check of brakes and wheel bearings. You'd need to energize the system with the transfer box opened up, not ideal. The other thing that would be quick and easy would be a periodic scan of the breaker box.

Well, as much as it is a pain in the butt to deal with, I guess that I should be happy to have the 30 amp plug in my electric bay where the generator output is. Except for the extra heating in the cord due to CEMF (coil effect) since I keep it neatly coiled up in there...….

after the melt down of the inverter and neutral return, i placed all the connections on a 90 day check, vice the 6 months to a year
its funny the captured fittings are ALUM and the wire is copper
two different coefficients of expansion and contraction...yep they will loosen
add in the bouncing and vibrations that are put in the mix going down the road
