Fire Supression Systems

Has anyone had the misfortune or fortune to use Proteng or Blazecut fire impression systems?

I've been considering installing them on our motorhome, but have never heard of anyone who actually had them activate during a fire.

Won't work very well in an open engine compartment. The Proteng website specifically says "Designed to suppress fires in enclosed areas."

Hope never to have it go off, but we installed the Proteng system in our Bus. Seems simple enough and does not take up any room. I figured should I ever upgrade to a newer rig I could remove the system and transfer it myself.

You’re correct they do install them in the engine compartment. Fortunately I’ve not had to experience if it will work or not, however I sure feel safer with it there than not. It’s also installed in the generator compartment along with both battery compartments covered as well.

I got a bid once. They quoted to install in the engine compartment, water heater, generator, propane tank, refer any place there were electrical components, any place there might be fire. IIRC the bid was almost $6K

Thank you for your interest in Proteng...the original fire suppression system using FM200 Fire suppressant. A non-toxic, no residue product which takes all the heat out of the compartment after activation.

Because we have a 4-year warranty on our product, we are contacted by customers who have had fires break out in their RV's where Proteng has been installed. When a fire erupts, and Proteng has suppressed a fire, the customer will request a replacement tube so they can continue protecting that same area. Under the warranty, those tubes (devices are replaced at no charge, both parts/labor). From my experience, the device will typically suppress the fire preventing it from spreading to other areas of the RV, which is exactly the results we are looking for.

Our hope is that folks will take a pro-active approach to fire safety and install a safe and automatic fire suppression system before a fire breaks out.

We actually use a large enough device where Proteng will work well in an engine compartment. We want to make sure there is enough FM200 available in the device to cover that size of an area. With a diesel engine of 360hp to 450hp we are using a device 15ft in length covering the engine, alternator, starter and many time those chassis batteries. For engines larger then 450hp we are using a device 21ft in length.

The actual FM200 (Fire Suppression substance) has a 30-year shelf life. However, as it is contained within the tube, the two combined it's a bit different. In high-heat area's, ie. engine compartment, generator, you can expect the device to last 7-8 years, all other non, high-heat area's are expected to last between 8-10 years.

Thank you for the question, and for your interest!
