Flag pole attachment

We will be taking delivery of our new Tiffin Allegro 33AA in a few days and I have a question about flag poles. The new rig does not have a fixed ladder. That is where I used to attach our flag pole on our previous rig. We travel with bikes so the hitch is occupied. I have sort of looked into suction cups and some sort of Velcro straps or zip ties but nothing looks easy, sturdy, or efficient.

Does anybody have suggestions for attaching a telescopic flag pole to a rig with no fixed ladder.

Thank you in advance.

We use a bolt-on 2" receiver and a flag pole holder that mates with it. We use this arrangement for a 20' telescoping flag pole for our Starlink satellite dish. It is a low cost and robust approach to overcome all tree obstacles while also placing the weight of everything on the ground in lieu of on screws fastened in your RV.

For years, I used a fiberglass telescoping flagpole attached to my fixed ladder. I did suffer several disappointing flagpole failures due to wind load. The flagpole manufacturer did replace the broken poles, suggesting an acknowledgement of potential failure during normal use.

When we got our current coach without an attached ladder, I first considered a suction mount system. For a variety of reasons, I decided that a better solution was to change from the fiberglass poles to an aluminum extending pole. I've been glad that I did, as the aluminum pole is significantly stronger; no failures in 8 years, including numerous trips to high wind areas with 2 3'X5' flags mounted.

I use a bolt on receiver hitch like this:

and a flagpole mount like this:

Easy to put up and take down the flagpole and much more substantial than the fiberglass pole systems.

Take care,
Stu

Use your favorite search engine and look for “under tire flag pole holder” or just go to Amazon.

I made my own and is very similar to 777 Driver's setup. I went to Harbor Freight and bought the hitch receiver in the link below.

https://www.harborfreight.com/class-...ube-69879.html

I mounted the Harbor Freight receiver to the top of the hitch crossbar on the coach. If no room above, you can mount it underneath. I used two U bolts to securely attach it.

You can buy something like what 777 Driver used for the flag, but I made my own. I wanted a long enough tube to keep the flag from bending and striking the rear of the coach. A lot depends on what type of flag pole you decide to use. Mine is the 20' fiberglass model. That gives me about 8' above the coach for the flag. I used some square tubing that fit into the receiver and then welded round tube to the end. I use a regular hitch pin to keep it in place. By making the pole holder square tubing about 2' long, it keeps it a safe distance from the back of the coach so the pole doesn't strike it in the wind.

Sorry the first two photos are sideways....

We use a simple adjustable flag pole holder, shone below, along with two 6 foot, 1 inch diameter tent poles. It gives us a 12 ft high pole, that easily disassembles for storage.

Flag pole holder

Thank you all for the suggestions.. I will need to see if there is a spot to mount a bolt on receiver that won’t be blocked by our bike rack. The “wheel mount” looks intriguing but it may be a bit of a hassle to setup like 777 Driver noted…..however if I am unsuccessful with other options I will get in touch with 777 Driver about the wheel mount that is available.

Thank you,

Stan and Janice

A digression of sorts...but since you mentioned bike rack...

You may have noticed that we have three bolt on 2" hitch receivers. When traveling and taking our normal gravel bikes AND our ebikes, we use the two outer receivers for a robust bike rack that we fabricated for our gravel bikes as it doesn't subject them to severe dynamics that the typical purchased, single receiver and more structurally flexible bike racks induce on the rear bumper of a trailer. We store our folding ebikes, which are significantly heavier than our gravel bikes, in our truck bed.

When in camp, we use two of our three 2" hitch receivers for our Starlink satellite dish and for our ham radio antenna.
