Flex-Seal, Anyone?
My recent TV viewing is being deluged with commercials for Flex-Seal products - including one where an RV roof is being touched up. What experiences have members had with any of these products as relevant to RV maintenance?

I have a roll in the RV and have used it to fix my computer keyboard. It's almost good for that. I'd not use it anywhere on the RV that wasn't EXTREMELY temporary. Eternabond tape in the other hand I have used and it does hold up on the outside of the rv (and I also used it to seal the inside of my shower when I rebuilt that. No water will ever get behind the walls of my shower ever again.

I find the commercials annoying, same for the magic hoses, digital TV antenna’s, super duper frying pans, but at least they are not the Medicare commercials. As far as flex seal, I might use it for a temporary patch.

It has no U/V protection and will break down quickly when exposed to sunlight.

There was another thread about this a while back. Consensus was that it's OK for very short term bandaid type fixes and that's about it. That's also what I have found.

I used the white flex seal in a pint can to repair a cracked dome above the shower. Several of the screw holes spider cracked. Poured the entire contents around the perimeter of the dome, as a temporary fix until I replace it. That was last fall, seems to be holding up well. The ONLY reason I used it was because I was out of Dicor.
Would I use it as a permanent solution for RV roof repairs?
No. As others have stated it lacks uv protection.
My "temporary" fix will be my evaluation, if it starts leaking again it just drips in the shower.

Used some of the spray on white to seal the roof on an old travel trailer we were using for storage that had roof leaks. Didn't last 6 months before it failed. Sun exposure killed it.........

I used the liquid from a can to seal a leaky lower storage compartment. I painted a very think coat on the outside of the compartment and has held for a year so far. There are better things to use for roof repair and would not use it for that.

Its not even good for a temporary repair.
Everything flex seal makes has petroleum distillates in it which will make EDPM roof swell to some degree. Whether it will bother TPO ones??

Had a leak on my crank up tv ant where the wires came up thru a flex tube and small cracks on the base of it. That was about 2 years ago. It sat outside in several rainstorms afterwards until I got the cover built. Still doing great. Not the rv but repaired a crack on a outer plastic tub on a washing machine that gets used daily over a year ago. The pint can said it has UV Protection. Wife loves her 25 year old washing machine and refuses to give it up.

I accidentally sawed my RV into two huge pieces lengthwise with a chainsaw, but fortunately I had 38 rolls of Flextape in my garage and was able to repair the RV quickly, with no leaks.

while we haven't had to use it on the coach, i would not hesitate to use it in an emergency (think duct tape)................it does hold pretty firm........we had a couple of pool float lounge chairs that developed small "holes" from where they were creased during storage..........i smeared flex seal on the leaks and let it dry........reinflated.............the "patch" held firm for a couple of years........in fact, the actual plastic gave way and weather cracked, while the patch held firm.............i think it is pretty good stuff for what it is...............

Some of the products contain petroleum byproducts. I bought a can of white paint/sealant, didn't read the label until I got home.
