just purchased a 2002 Dolphin Motor home. How do i put the bleach solution into the tank ? There is no opening like i had in my 5th wheel trailer.

I assume you want to sanitize your fresh water tank. And in that case, we're only talking 1/2 cup of bleach or so... If you do not have a gravity fill fresh water port, you can carefully pour the bleach into your fill hose hooked up to the city water connection on your coach. Then turn the valve to "tank fill", hook up the hose to the city water anf fill-er up.

What troth said plus that is a good way to clean the fill hose also. That is, if you dont have your fill hose connected to a filter and then to your coach. If you have a filter in the line, the filter will remove the bleach and therefore will not be effective. Cleaning the hose is good to do occasionally anyways.

My advice: DON'T put ANY bleach in fresh water tank! I have owned several MH's over the years, used a little baking soda now and then. One time, I put about 2 tablespoons of bleach in tank, it took me 2months to get rid of the bleach taste! Many flushings. I carry seperate water for consumption, never drink water that is stored in tank.

I'll never use bleach again!

Thanks for the quick responses. 1/2 cup will do the complete tank ? I believe is is a 50 - 60 gallon tank.

repoman, 1/2 cup in 55 gals water is plenty. You can use 1/3 cup of bleach if you've got concerns. Once filled up, take the coach for a spin, a good 10 miles or so with some curves to slosh it around. Then yer done; I drain it then and fill w/ fresh clean (filtered) water therafter for the rest of the summer.
ps- I also drain my fresh tank after every campout (incl. hot water heater).

Just one further comment. Woodall's Rv Owners Handbook recommends 1/4 cup household bleach per 15 gallons. Then follow Troths procedure.

My unit came with a short hose to be used in winterizing. I mix a cup of bleach into a gallon (milk jug) container of water and suck it thru the water pump into the fresh tank using the short hose - simple.

......you all are going to poision yourselves one of these days....flush your tank with baking soda and drink yuppie bottled water......tanks are a good place to grow bacteria warm-moist-dark.....just like in Mexico......geofkaye

Your Dolphin should have a separate water inlet with a valve labeled something like "Inlet to pump" and "Tank to Pump". With the valve in the "Inlet to pump" position, the water pump will suck on a [short] hose connected to the adjacent inlet. If you stick the other end of that hose in a bucket of water/bleach solution, turn on the pump and open a water tap, the bleach solution will be sucked thru the system. Repeat for each water tap until you can smell the chlorine at the tap.
