I've talked to several truckers while fueling in the truck lanes.

Never unfriendly
Often helpful
Usually very curious about the motorhome and flat towing

When I ask about how they view RVs in the "truck" fueling lanes:
Never a negative response
Several preferentially pull in behind RVs if all lanes are full because we refuel our "small" tanks a lot faster than a truck fills it's large tanks.

If a trucker (or RV) pulls forward to the line and disappears inside for longer than what seems reasonable there are reasons for this other than rudeness.

Maybe there is a long line at the fuel desk, the fuel desk clerk went to the bathroom etc.

Remember if the truck driver ahead of you is delaying you he is also delaying other truckers.

Bottom line (my experience) in general truckers have no animosity to us being there, most are friendly, curious, and helpful and courteous.

I have found the same to be true at rest areas.

Lots of reasons trucker do this, none of them truly justifiable. Most often (I'd guess) is the driver is trying to take his/her required 30-minute off-duty break while he is filling the tanks. Could be stuck inside waiting in line for food, or could be in the shower (yup - the shower.)

There was a recent change in hours of service rules for drivers which allows them to take the 30-minute break from driving while on-duty, so hopefully this type of thing will get better. But it might take a while for all the logging devices and driver training to catch up.

Oregon TSD prices for RV, Q re PUC

Has anyone used the TSD card in Oregon? Their marked truck prices at truck stops have a PUC tax discounts they have PUC permits and pay based on weight and mileage, so get $.36 off per gallon of diesel. i’ve fueled at trucks stops but when go inside I pay the extra tax.

Curious how this works when using TDS EFS card, as I just swipe at the pump and normally don’t go in at all.

Will be going through Oregon next week. Seven Feathers casino charges 1.899 for all (non-state land) which is more than the listed TSD price, but would be less than TSD plus the tax surcharge.

Vern, you had me hearing that in Rod Serling's voice.

I haven't fueled in OR since receiving my TSD card, but there is statement regarding the OR PUC tax in the green section at the top of Home page of the TSD app.

Funny you should mention Rod Serling. I think I may have been in one of his versions of the "The RV Zone" in June when I had a bee fly deep into my ear one morning, while doing a pre trip walk around in a remote area of eastern Arizona. That bee was buzzing and biting, but unwilling or unable to get out of my ear. After several miles of trying to locate a healthcare facility in New Mexico that was open, I was finally able to flick it out onto the floor. You can rest assured that Rod Serling was in my thoughts for several weeks after that experience.

I suspect my next episode of "The RV Zone" might have me faithfully clutching my TSD/EFS card, trapped between two semis at a fuel stop, fearing that someone might approach me to implore me to not tell anyone else what a wonderful program I am using, that it is only for truck drivers.

This episode makes me fear driving in the "truck lane", using the "truck" area of a Rest Area, and using the "truck lanes" when ascending or descending steep mountains grades.

Finally, I woke up form "The RV Zone" episode and realized that truck drivers are not the enemy of RVs. I learned to drive on a tractor, pulled farm equipment and spent time as a truck driver, so have a hard time doing anything but treating them with the same respect I would expect to enjoy.

Fuel stops designed for fleet account holders (aka truck stops/TSD/EFS card holders) are not war zones. Smile, wave and treat each other with respect and you will get that behavior in return.

Would you be so kind as to copy and paste the statement here, for those of us who don't have the app? There's nothing about it on TSD's website.

Just to clarify--does the 36 cents/gallon get added to the TSD price during the reconciliation process, like they add the fee and their cut?

Thanks! I use the EFS app so didn’t see this either. Makes sense to add the .36 since RVs not have a PUC permit.

Would be nice if this showed in the EFS app, at least when clicking and zooming on an Oregon station/price. Isn’t handled by GasBuddy etc for diesel in Oregon either, sometimes you get a retail price, sometimes a trucker (PUC) price, whoever enters it and app doesn’t know about the difference so doesn’t ask, so makes it a little challenging when trying to plan a stop for a large fill (I have 145 gallon tank).

Just used EFS card at TA in Vero Beach Florida. Pump said price was $152 and change, EFS app says $113. Came to about $39 savings for the fill up and about sixty cents a gallon.

I am sold on this card!!

Maybrook NY, $78 off on 79 or gallons of fuel, nearly a buck a gallon under the posted price. This program makes it less expensive to travel with our Tiffin than it was to travel with our Winnie...
