Our Galley slide creeps in. I've replaced the two (extend and retract) hydraulic solenoids twice. The second time HWH replaced them at no charge under warranty (all were rebuilt). The slide is creeping in again after two trips out. The slide doesn't creep out and never did. Any suggestion?

When you say you replaced the solenoids, was that just the electrical coil pack or was the valve itself replaced as well. Check to make sure that the manual override of the valve is fully closed, otherwise the hydraulic pressure will bleed through and the result is as you see the room retracting a bit. If the valve is manually closed and was not replaced you may want to contact HWH for further evaluation and help. Good luck and keep us posted.

Mike and Amy,

I replaced what I think is the entire solenoid. The soleniod unscrewed from a manifold. I have tightened the "T" handle as much as I dare, but still creeps.
When the "T" handle is opened the slide will still retract and extend, is this to bleed out air in the system? If I have air in the system why doesn't the slide creep out or my jacks lose pressure?

If the actual valve were replaced you would have accessed the transmission fluid used for the hydraulics of the system. THis could have allowed some air into the system but by repeatedly operating the slide room you would bbleed of this air through the resevoir. The "T" handle is so that if the solenoid (electrical coil) were to fail you could restract the room or jacks for travel. If you open the "T" valve then the hydraulic pressure is released back into the resevoir. If you think you have air in the system just keep operating the slide room. Have you checked for any leaks? This too can cause the room to creep in.

Tom, I think you'll find that there's "contamination" (a nice word for dirt/debris) in your hydraulic fluid. I had a very similar experience but it was with a HWH jack bleeding down over night (lost about 1/2" height). After conversations with HWH, we determined the best step was replacement of the solenoid. I did that and found a lot of tiny little black paint chips in the fluid and these were getting stuck in the needle valve keeping the needle from fully seating/sealing.
Then I took a turkey baster and sucked up a big draw from the fluid in the HWH reservoir, and dumped it a glass measuring cup. -You wouldn't beleive all the contamination I saw floating around in that 'sample'. Even the new replacement solenoid from HWH came in a plastic bag because it was wet with fluid; -and it had paint chips coming off the wires where HWH had painted them up at the factory. All those little particles go through your needle valves, and occasionally may cause a leak, even on cylinder rod seals. Eventually they will end up at the reservoir, and they should get trapped in there because the pump has a 3 or 5 micron filter on its intake. (The filter is built-in and cannot be serviced). Unfortunately, there is no drain for the reservoir, so the only way to clean your fluid is to pump it out or use a turkey baster. Pain in the ....

Troth,

Would a inline power steering filter on the return line to the resevoir help? I put one in any time I have to replace a pump or rack on my vehicles.
