Gas prices credit/cash

I gassed up on the way to and from Myrtle Beach. The credit price was 6 cents and 9 cents higher per gal than cash. This is a big difference, I will be carrying a lot of cash around until this gas crap calms down, I would rather not carry a lot of cash. This has got to hurt the CC companies but they sure won't get any sympathy from me!

In my area, the places that do that seem to be the big truck stops...Pilot, Loves, etc. We try to find a mom and pop truck stop that sells lots of fuel...normally they are cleaner, friendlier and cheaper.

Not the wisest thing to say in an open forum.

The old cash/credit price BS. I drive a truck for a living and don't carry a wad of cash around to use for filling up. On average a fillup (at todays gouging prices) is around $750.00-$800.00. I have 2 150 gallon tanks on my Peterbilt. Sometimes I have to do that twice a week. For those specific reasons I won't visit a fuel station (Loves, Flyin J or Petro) that likes to charge more because I want to use my CC. I also look for the smaller mom and pop type of places for fueling up.

What I have noticed is that the price of diesel is usually more $$ than a fuel station off of the main interstates. I guess they feel that they can charge/gouge more because the 18 wheelers won't venture to far off for fuel.

I agree with Ranger. I find that BP and Shell are good places for diesel and beside the price usually being lower they don't make me pay a penalty for using the CC.

If you want the cash price when using a CC, at Pilot/J, get one of their Frequent Fueler cards. Then follow the instructions on the screen at the pump.

I think that this practice of charging more for CC is a crock, as they all have this figured in for many years now. They are not giving you $.06-$.09 off , they are just charging us more for what they have already factored in ( IMHO ). That being said, my 4000 mile summer trip will use aprox. 600 gallons of gas. The $54.00 extra ( at $.09 ) is still worth me using my CC , rather than carrying the extra cash.

My AMEX card gives me a 4% rebate on gas purchases. At $4 plus per gallon, that is 16 cents or more rebate. That sure beats a 5 or 6 cent a gallon cash discount. I pay the balance in full each month so no interest charges.

Im with Ranger429 on this one. All the big side-of-the-road truckstops fuel is on average (here in Ohio) around 10 cents gallon HIGHER than if you travel just a mile or so down past them. Saving 10 bucks on a fill up is well worth it to drive on down the road an additional mile in either direction.

As we are now traveling across county. We have been using our American Express card at Flying J's and have been receiving the cash price plus a small discount with the Flying J card.
