Gas Struts?

The gas struts that hold the bed up to allow access have lost their muscle over the years. I'm wanting to replace them but I haven't been able to locate the struts with the little safety locking mechanism on them. Can someone suggest a model number or how I might search for these?

Look on the side of the strut, there should be a number to type into a search engine. That's how I found replacements for my compartment door struts. Some automotive stores carry struts as do many RV dealers.

Are they like this. Suspa has locking struts with cables to locks but not sure how that would work.

All I seen when opening that link is a black screen with a white dot in the center.

Weird works on chrome I think it's a manufacturer most likely you can't get one or two from them anyway. Why are you looking at me like there's a screen grab
We have ones like it on Toyota forklift engine covers.Click image for larger version

153stars,
that looks like it. Mine were black but similar. when lifted all the way strut piston shifts locking it open. to close you must re-align to allow it to retract and lower bed back down. Tried to take old one off but wound up tearing it up before i could get it removed.
Thanks

You could replace with same strength cylinder and create a prop rod or cut a slot in some PVC pipe sch.80 would be best for a safety device. Here's one for larger hyd. cylinders.

I replaced the worn out gas struts with linear actuators. It wasn't much more work and they're a little longer so there's more clearance when it's open. Nice to push a button and watch it go up, too.

I used the 14"/350mm extension. It stops with the mattress a couple of inches from the ceiling, but that also will depend on the mounting position and angle.

I did have a concern about what would happen if one of the actuators died and how I'd get the cover open. So I made a couple of steel plates and welded the top mounts to them, then tacked the 4 nuts to the plate. I can take the bolts out from the top of the bed cover and the linear actuator will drop down.

Just an FYI, I wound up going to Fleetwood website (REV) put in part number and locking strut popped right up. Ordered and received it in 3 days.
Replacement Done!

Once upon a time the struts on the rear window of a truck topper failed. I slipped a piece of PVC pipe over them. When it was lifted the pipe dropped down and locked the strut in place. To lower just center the pipe. Worked like a charm.

A window is a few pounds. A mattress on the engine cover is a whole lot of pounds. Getting it up with no assist is a big job.
