Generator won't stay running

2006 class c with Oman generator. It starts and runs for about 30 to 60 seconds and shuts off. Then it won't start again for about 10 min.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

P.S. There is enough fuel in the tank.

Different possibilities for different models. What model Onan do you have?

well if your motorhome is like mine , the fuel has to be above a quarter tank , the other thing that comes to mind is if it has many hours of run time the valves might need ajusting, my 4k only has two thousands clearence intake and exhaust

racer26,
The service manual for a 4.0KY Spec K is 981-0530C (http://www.cumminsonan.com/www/pdf/m.../981-0530C.pdf).
Is there a fault code indicated? Procedures for reading it are contained in the service manual and the operators manual.

Operators Manual: http://www.cumminsonan.com/www/pdf/m.../981-0159D.pdf

Onan problem....

Racer26,

I have an '06 Itasca with same generator & had a similar problem as yours. Found out after much testing/reading/calling/etc., that OE fuel pump took a crap. Easy to test for [afterwards!]: just disconnect fuel hose at generator carburetor, push prime button & see how much fuel flows into the plastic container you're holding to catch it. OE pump pressure is set at ~2psi & volume is low -- but should be capable of filling a small [~8oz] container in short order. If fuel flows initially then stops, the fuel filter may be clogged which compounds the problem. Both components are easily replaceable with hand tools & are available from Onan for ~$125.....
