Getting TX plates

We went to the license office today to get vehicles licens d & registered in TX .
Am told I have to comeback after I get a certified Empty weigh ticket.
So we’ll have to unload the whole thing , get it weighed & Reload & put away. This is stupid .
Anyone else run into this ?

They won't accept the Federal weight sticker on the vehicle? WA did when I registered my rig. Had to get a supervisor involved though as the clerk didn't understand the math.

Unless unloading makes you drop to a lower level, you should be able to just weigh it at any CAT scale. The reason they want a weight is Texas tags are based on vehicle weight on any over 10k pounds. Here is the breakdown for most motor homes.

10,001-18,000 lbs. $110.00
18,001-25,999 lbs. $205.00
26,000-40,000 lbs. $340.00
40,001-54,999 lbs. $535.00

Exactly.

Doesn't matter if you weigh 17,900# loaded or 10,200# unloaded...same price

But if your MH weighs 18,010#.......dump some of the 'extra' stuff and get weight under 18,000# for the lower registration fee

This is part of importing your rig into The Republic. We bought a 5th wheel up in Ohio back in 2011. One of the things I needed to provide was a weigh scale ticket. At the time, I took it to a scrap dealer who had a drive-over scale. The young girl there gave me a ticket after only 1 weight, just the trailer wheels. So, the weight was substantially low. The license office didn't care about accuracy, they simply wanted a scale ticket so I gave them the one I had and everything was good.
As posted above, I suggest going to a CAT scale and weigh it without worrying about it being a true empty weight.

The only way this might bite you is if there are higher licensing fees for higher weights. I have no idea if this is the case, but if so then I suppose you could get into a lower bracket by emptying?

I see that the esteemed Old Biscuit has provided information that I didn't have. (This happens a lot.)
It looks like you've got everything you need to proceed.

All you need is a scale ticket from a Texas scale. Maybe should use one south of I-10 just to be sure.

As a DFW area resident, I'd say anyone above I-30.

The old-timers here say you MUST have put peanuts in your coke, and of course coke really means RC Cola or maybe Dr. Pepper....in order to be clear of all suspicion.
You also MUST listen to Pat Green's music and ideally you used to two-step at the Armadillo Ballroom....

Some translations:

djeet?----Did you have lunch yet?

momenem------The family.

rat cheer-------Where you are right now.

So we got it weighed at loves in Midlothian . I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t weigh as much as I assumed ... we didn’t unload it .
