I've heard the Toyo "stink" comment before but I haven't experienced it with mine. I wonder if it applies to some particular model of tire that has a unique rubber compound? I think mine were the M144, designed for the regional/urban application rather than long haul or off-road.
The GY G670 is known for river wear, but I don't think it is a cause for despair. It's more an visual oddity than a problem; I've yet to see/hear of a case where a tire failed prematurely because of rivering. Tire engineers don't consider it a problem that requires any action. You should get the full years or miles of service regardless.
I that that issue was pre 2016 or 2017. My Toyo's didn't smell when I bought them in 2016.

Did not have good luck with Goodyear on the front. Cupped on both tires. Went with Yokohama and very happy with their performance. It did take about 500 miles to get rid of the smell.
