Help!!!

I'm very new to this motorhome thing. My 1991 safari serengeti with a ford460 engine smells funny every time I turn on the engine. It is not the breaks. While driving it long distance it started smoking just a little bit from he front and the check engine light came on. What do you think it is???

Welcome to iRV2

Sorry you're here with problems .

Smoke from the front and CEL on , I can think of about 5 different very serious problems that could be happening .

Have you checked all the engine fluid levels ?
If you look up at the engine from under the coach do you see any drips ?
Did the smell from the front remind you of oil or rubber burning?
Did you notice the dash volt , temp or any gauge on the dash give a reading out of the normal range before the CEL came on ?

Sorry , I can't come to grips with the question about " hydraulic levelers open "
If you have hydraulic levelers you want them " retracted " or " stored " before you move the coach.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I'm far from being a mechanic so I can't advise you on this! Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Those 460 engines are bad at burning a hole in the Y exhaust where the two manifolds come together. Lots of heat especially at wide open throttle. Perhaps the hole causes smoke and cel?

Some years back a friend had a similar problem of getting a nasty odor from his engine compartment when his engine got hot or warmed up. One day he removed the motor cover for a close inspection and found a dead cat laying on the manifold. When cold no noticeable odor, but when things got hot...whew it stunk!! I quick check for critters may be in order as they like to crawl up there on cold nights to get warm.
