Question Help me get my 81 Pace Arrow started

OK I'm hoping to get info on how to start my 81 Pace Arrow as I do not have ignition key and generator was removed. Will I still be able to start it? Hooked battery up n driving lights and interior lights came on but it won't crank over. You can hear it trying to start. Any advice much appreciated

Can you add some info about your RV ?

Class C or A ?

Engine ? Gas , Diesel ?

Chassis manufacturer ?

I'm having trouble with your description too " but it won't crank over . You can hear it trying to start ,"

Won't crank over means , the starter won't work at all .

How are you trying to start the engine if you don't have the key ?

Gas engine p30 chassis and 34 ft long and trying to hotwire it and apparently holding a screwdriver to a starter just tests the starter? Just need to know if the generator being taken out would cause any issues with starting. It has sat for 3 years and I'm just wondering where to start. Does it need both batteries? What switches do I need and where would they be located. Brand new to the rv world

It's a chevy/dodge and what do both batteries do? Do you need both to start the rv? Cam u bypass an emergency start and how do I know if I have one? I also read something about switches by the entryway that I believe have something to do with the rv starting. This rv did run great 3 years ago as well

Interior house lights should be hooked to house batteries.
It doesn’t turn over but your sure starter solenoid is working?
Use a voltage tester to make sure starter is getting voltage.
I shouldn’t need house batteries to start.

Chevy/dodge ???

I'm sorry but , that's like saying it's chalk/cheese .
P-30 (or 32) chassis has a Chevy engine .
You only need the 12 volt chassis battery (ies) in place to start the motor .
The emergency start switch is to connect both sets of batteries , so if you only have chassis battery in place , there's no sense trying to use it .
.
Are you using fresh gas to try and start the engine ?
Three year old gas won't get it running.

Gen set removal ; that depends on how the genset was removed , if wires were cut you'll probably have problem trying to get it running .

The switch by the door would be to store the unit ; disconnect the coach batteries so they don't go dead .
Coach batteries supply 12 volt power to the interior of the coach , lights , furnace fridge.
Chassis batteries , start and run the engine and exterior lighting .

Unless you can provide power to the ignition system , for spark to the plugs it won't run either .
What happened to the key , it maybe easier to hire a locksmith to replace the key than for me to describe how to hot wire a vehicle .

I suspect you are saying CRANK /NO START vs NO CRANK/ NO START?

also, since old gen removed, GET ELECTRIC TAPE AND Tape over battery cable end at old GEN location so it cannot short out and cause battery fire/explosion/ other issues.

I suggest you contact a local independent mechanic to take a look and offer suggestions. A knowledgeable person onsite will eliminate most of the problems, save a lot of frustration and get you on the right path.
