Yes, sheet metal screws! I started with the bottom and worked my way up. When the last screw came out, top one fell......next thing is they're all on the bottom. Lesson learned the hard way.

You could consider replacing the original door hinges with one, door length continuous hinge (piano hinge). This would distribute the weight of the door over many more contact points with the door and door frame. Use self tapping #8 screws and try to avoid the original screw placements. If you can't get self tapping screws, drill undersized pilot holes and use sheet metal screws that best fit the countersink on the hinge.
