Hi all,

While travelling down to OBX my 04 Bounder W22 became difficult to start/keep running after stopping at a rest stop. Pop sputter and backfire as I went down the highway. Got to a gas station and filled up with ~45 gallons although the gas guage said I had more than 1/2 a tank (75 gal tank). Figure I had water/bad gas. I've driven maybe 275 miles w/o a problem. My question is should I replace the fuel filter now or can I wait til I get home (Phila PA area--420 miles to go)?

Thanks

Both. If the filter is easy to replace, consider:
1. buying 3 filters
2. replace the filter now
3. drive home trying to get home with as little fuel in the tank as you dare
4. drain the tank. This step can be skipped if the filter changed in step 2 looked clean.
5. refill the tank and change the filter again
6. if the filter again shows clean. Water was most likely the problem.
7. keep the 3rd filter, onboard, as a spare

I've has some bad fillups (with gas coaches not my signature coach). I never drained the tank because the filters looked clean.

I would try to get some alcohal that is as pure (99%) as you can and add it to the tank. Lacking that, use a additive that is recommended for winter driving. Even using the modern blend of alcohol and gas will dry the water from your tank eventually. The alcohol will absorb the water.

Been there and done that! I even had to be towed in and water removed from my tank on a previous MH. We put some intoo a clean jar and watched the water seperate!
