The outcome depends on how resourceful you are. When we acquired our present coach, an '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the CAT C-7 330HP, it had/has, two, 7-pin trailer plugs on it, one on each side of the license plate. I was kind of perplexed on this as, the previous owner was not the original owner and, he bought it that way too.
No biggie, two plugs are not an issue. In the end, I found out why. One of the previous owners was using a Remco pump system on a toad. When those are used, a totally separate trailer plug is installed, separate from the main 7 -pin plug.
Well, I too installed a motorcycle lift on this coach. And, because the motorcycle I was hauling, basically covered up the lights on back of the coach, I created lights on the lift. So, I used one of the two plugs for attaching a cord to, so the lights on the lift would work.
But, we also towed an Jeep Rubicon. So, I needed lights to work on that too. So, I used the other 7-pin connector for that. It worked out perfectly.
So, to the OP, to me, the answer is simple, just wire in a parallel twin plug, like I have, and you're good to go. It would take oh, maybe an hour to do the whole job. And your problem is cured forever.
