I don't justify playing golf, going fishing, hunting, riding my motorcycle or anything else I can afford to do. It is where you choose to spend your time and money. No justification required. Now once the money runs out, I guess it will become a hotel somewhere and not driven. Not there yet......

I don't have to justify MPG - because I chose an RV that gets 17-18 mpg and can take me places where there are no campground fees to pay.

"Bigger is better" is way over-rated. I think most people carry more junk around than they'd ever truly need.

When we retired, we wanted to see all of the USA and Canada before we got too old or in poor health. We have visited 42 States and 3 Canadian Provinces in the last 8 plus years. I would hate to think of the many, many airport gropings, unknown number of bedbugs and lost hotel and rental car reservations we would have endured to do the same thing without the RV.

I don't need to justify, we worked hard and we are enjoying retirement.

Assuming there could ever be a reason I was compelled to justify my lifestyle to a third party I guess this would be about it.

My Winnebago Chieftain gets 8mpg
My Ford C Max gets 42 mpg
Therefore when traveling I average 25 mpg. That's pretty darn good for vacation travel.

Some trips the RV gets the most mileage, other trips the toad does. I never kept records comparing the average of two over several trips.

None of that matters in the least however. How anyone spends their income for their recreation can't be justified by someone else's values.

People who pay two million dollars to buy a rare painting or a piece of jewelry are ecstatic with their purchases. I'd have a coronary at such waste. Others would be aghast at the choices I make for spending my discretionary funds. It's simply about personal choice and desires.

"Because I earned the money and therefore I will spend it any dang way I want" is the only justification the guy next to me needs to know.

I have to admit the number of hotel bedbug concerns is surprising. For the past 7 or so years I have traveled and stayed in hotels about 30 nights a year in the US, Canada, UK and Japan. Never had a bedbug issue.

I think our (collective) concerns about bed bugs is due to the media blowing the occasional issue way out of proportion.

Even still....I prefer traveling in my RV over staying at hotels. This week I am in Florida. After a red eye flight, a short connection in Atlanta where I had to run to catch my plane and dealing with 3 airports I am kinda beat. While I am staying at a nice hotel I would SO much rather be in my RV and being in my own comfortable environment.

He who dies with the most toys wins. It we only purchased and used stuff we truly need we would be staying at home (in under 600 sq ft). Armoured cars do not make house calls to the cemetary.

Not sayin' I'm lining a casket with 100 bills.

I just have better uses for my money than buying fuel and spending on a ginormous RV.

You should too.

I cannot imagine any better use for my money than enjoying what I worked for so hard for so many years. Far better than having it go to those who have done nothing to deserve it.

It's not the miles per gallon that matter, it's the SMILES PER GALLON that count!

Justify to WHO? Or should I of said WHOM? Why would one even think about justifying their purchase of an RV. It is my business and no one else's opinion. Most (if not all Rv'ers) worked their butts off and because of their efforts they purchase RV's. Ever hear a person who bowls or golfs justify there decision to participate in their sport of choice? Ever hear Captain of a boat justify his purchase of a boat.
Safe travels.... ed
