How fast does oil in a diesel turn black

Took my coach in for service. First time for this coach under my ownership.

Engine oil & filter look clean, appears they did the work.

Generator oil is black. Probably ran the generator 15-20 min since taking it in for service. Should the gen oil still look clean?

Takes 30 seconds Change the oil, start the engine, then shut down and check the dip stick and the oil will be black (there is enough old oil in the engine when you do an oil change to turn the new oil black pretty fast.

Of course it also depends on how big the engine is (amount of oil engine holds).

This is decribed around the 4 minute mark

I have been running diesels for 50 some years. The only exception to this rule is my 1999 Ford pickup with a 7.3 diesel. That oil never turns black. I run Wolfs Head 15-40 synthetic blend. Change oil every 3-5000 miles.

I’m old school black oil is doing it’s job. Gray oil has done it’s job.
