When I was working it wouldn't be uncommon to do 500 to 600 per day but since we are retired now, 300 is the number for us.

We try to limit our daily driving to about 300 miles or less.

Agree with the 300 miles and the mid afternoon stopping for planning purposes. Sometimes have to stretch it a bit. Don't like setting up after dark.

My answer would be, It all depends. Our upcoming summer trip has days with 380 miles (all expressway) and days with 40 miles (Lake Loiuse to Banff). Have been up / down I75, I70, I80, I90 and I94 at least a dozen times each, so we usually rack up the miles thru most of the flat land. We also consider the weather too. Our average would be in around 225 miles. We enjoy the mountains and usually travel about 100 or so miles when we move.

We don't have any set routine, but it seems like they are always between 200-300 miles on a full day.

Part-timing we I would see 500-600 mile days (had to get there and get back to work)
Full-timing we average 150 mile days since there is a lot to see 150 miles from where you just were.

On the road we try to keep it under 350 miles per day, then we set up at a Wal-Mart or Truck stop, pour ourself a glass a wine and plan next day trip,

You will be surprised at how much time it takes to travel in the coach, fuel stops, etc.
I have done 550 door to door from my family house in Ks to DFW, in a little under 10 hours (including stops for fuel, etc). About 4.5 hours of this is on interstates, the rest on 2 lane highways.
Interstate travel is more efficient since there arent a lot of stops in smaller towns, etc. But of course that depends on where you are going.
We are getting ready to go to Denver and will go up 287 which is a 4 lane to Amarillo then over to Raton for the first night stay, where my Aunt lives. That will be approximately 550 miles and I'm hoping that will be a 10 hour trip as well, since it state 8.5 hours of driving....but the next day will be only a little over 4 hours on in to Denver....luxury day.
If I were retired, 6 hours driving time would be an ideal limit.

In my 40's it wasn't unusual to do a 900 mile day with one stop for fuel. In my 50's and still working it depends on where I am going.
If I am doing a 700 mile destination, I will leave as soon as everyone can leave on their last work day, usually around 3 PM. I am already loaded so all we have to do is get in and leave. I will try to do at least 7 hours of windshield time, which will be about 450 miles, I will fuel up before stopping and find a convenient Wal Mart/Sams Club to pull in and go to bed. I will start rolling when I wake, usually around 5 am, so I will drive until DW wakes up and make a quick stop for breakfast maybe, I will be at destination by noon with stopping and topping off so I am ready for the return trip.
I also work backwards my miles/windshield time to attempt to avoid major cities during rush hours, and I always try to be going against the flow during the peak rush hours. I can do a 21 hour windshield time trip (1,200 miles) in an easy 2 days using this method, and be in late afternoon on my second day with only using 1 vacation day for travel on the outbound.

FL to Pittsburgh 3 weeks ago. Wife was following in the car. I can drive farther but I she tires sooner than me.
1st day 412.9 miles.
2nd day 322.8 miles.
3rd day 249.8 miles.
