HWH fluid

I purchased HWH hydraulic fluid for my Jack and slides reservoir. When I went to add it, it says to use automatic transmission fluid. Any info on this? TIA

If you purchased fluid labeled as HWH jack fluid, I would imagine that it is simply the same Dexron Trans fluid repackaged.

If it were me, I would call HWH and ask. They were always great to me when I had questions about my jack system on a previous coach.

Just called HWH, the tech area has a one to two week callback time. (ouch) But the lady that answered the phone told me not to put Hydraulic oil in the reservoir. Only ATF. I still left my info for a callback. Also emailed, will update if I hear anything different.

Just found this on there HWH site. It says you can use HWH Specialty hydraulic oil. I guess if you are replacing regular ATF. Now I guess I have to figure if there is Synthetic in the reservoir are not.

INSTRUCTION SHEET - OIL REPLACEMENT
REPLACING STANDARD ATF WITH SYNTHETIC ATF

Only use one of the following synthetic fluids to replace the existing ATF in the system.
These fluids are compatible with Dexron ATF or HWH Specialty Hydraulic Oil.
Castrol Heavy Duty Lubricants - TranSynd
BP Lubricants - Autrand Syn 295
Cognis Corporation - Emgard 2805
International Truck and Engine Company - Fleetrite Synthetic ATF
Exxon Mobil Lubricants - Mobil Delvac Synthetic ATF
John Deere & Company - HD SynTran
Volvo Trucks North America - Bulldog Synthetic ATF
Remove oil from the jacks.
Remove the jack cylinder from the pivot bracket. Support the cylinder

That's the answer. For the longest time HWH used to push their own fluid, at double price, which was really Dextron fluid without the red color. Since there is no longer a technical standard for Dextron III, it looks like they're going with synthetic fluid now, if for no other reason than there are technical standards for it and it is of higher quality. I've been using TransSynd in the HWH jacks and in the power steering system for over 75,000 miles and have not had an issue. Cold weather performance seems to be better but I have no data to support that.

…..guess the only remaining question is whether dino and synthetic are mixable...like your tranny or engine, you really cant ensure that all the old fluid is removed before new is added, so some mixing is inevitable …..eg, Allison method for conversion to syn was to do two changes of synthetic to dilute the remaining dino--doesn't sound like there is a mixing issue??????

Yes they are compatible, just like engine oils. The Allison anology is only for switching to the 150,000 mile Transdyn transmission fluid from Dextron.

Normal trans fluid is colored. The HWH is clear so it won't stain if it leaks. You can also use TranSynd or any of it's compatible fluids.
