I got a nice surprise yesterday...

I went to transfer the title for my new-to-me coach yesterday and I was fully expecting the registration fee to be over $1,000, it is only $345. Michigan, where I live, charges for plates based on the MSRP of the vehicle, but they go by VIN. Since my VIN is for an incomplete vehicle I'm only charged based on the MSRP of the incomplete chassis. Sometimes you get good surprises.

Wow, you got lucky. We are paying well over $1000.00.
Yeah, in Michigan it's for model years -84 and newer based on MSPR. Robbery.

Interesting. Wonder how they would determine what the coach builder paid for the chassis ? Generally, that is a tightly held secret.

MSRP is probably public information. The actual price paid would be a different story.

That was a nice surprise, but not nearly as nice as my tag cost of $33.00

I'd bet MI hasn't caught on to Super C yet. It's pretty much a finished vehicle compared to the normal incomplete chassis Class A builders start with.

So would that number be used by the insurance company in case they had to total it out?

Lucky you, my new class C plates and tags cost over $1200 and I suspect next year the tags will cost about $1000 and drop every year after that, but at least we don't have state employment tax taken out of our salaries here in Nevada.

I guess they get us in other ways.

Mine are free!,. After your vehicle is 12 years old here in Montana, you can obtain a Permanent registration and plate. No more charges ever! I have had one for the 2004 model motorhome for 5 years. Also have 2010 Ford Ranger, and 2009 Honda CRV, permanently registered, also no
fees for either of them.

I don't think so, it looked like one of the quotes I got for insurance actually valued the coach about $5,000 more than I paid for it.

In ga. It’s based on an incomplete chassis. After first year just $20. For new sticker(no new metal tag)

We pay 750$ a year in MI. I could technically get it down to about 450$ by putting it off the road in winter but it means new plate number.

I went month to month in Michigan.
Downside: Need to go to the Secretary of State whenever I want to use the rig on public roads for those months purchased. So you get to really know what it costs to go camping as you can't forget the registration cost over the year.

The month's temp plate is paper. So I don't get to use my custom plate.

I also drop the collision coverage when the plate is off.
