I have an odd question
I know that trees and their leaves are a problem for roof top satellite dishes and making a connection. My question is if you were to put a sunshade above the same satellite dish, maybe a foot or two above it, would it cause the same problem. A sunshade similar to the pic attached.

It may weaken the signal but probably won't block it. Every layer of blockage makes it worse so it would make the trees and clouds be more of a problem than if it was in the open.

Just wondering. Why do you want to cover your satalite with a screen?

It will depend on the material. Some plastics do not block or weaken the signal, I.e. the plastic cover of a dome antenna, Google “radio transparent materials”

Yes, No, Maybe..
Anything you place between the receiver and the satellite could have an impact on the signal strength. I suspect this depends on what the material is made of, some would probably have more of an effect than others. What happens when the material gets damp/wet. Water is great at absorbing microwaves.
Give it a try. If you have a signal strength page on your reciever, compare the two locations.

I think he's got some invention that'll be on everyone's wish list. It'll make him rich and us smack our collective foreheads. He'll be so rich he can afford better friends than us.

Haha, would love to spill the beans but, I have an idea that I need to keep quiet for a bit. Going to do some testing.

I first put a bath towel, and then added a dish towel and then added my T shirt over my King sattelite done while watching TV, down in South Florida. Wasn't taking any more clothes off in this CG.
I only noticed a few second temporarily signal loss when my arm blocked the signal.
That says that 4 layers of cotton doesn't block the signal but not that it will find it while setting it up.
