If you look closely, you can count the vent rings to determine its age.

Installed a fantastic vent and ultra breeze cover over the bathroom today. At some point previously the kitchen vent had been changed to the same combo. I ordered two bug screens, one for the new one and one for the existing.

Oh the horror as I pulled the vent cover! Whoever installed it had tried to completely seal the vent cover on. This trapped dirt and moisture between the vent and cover. Luckily I had extra tubes of lap sealant so I was able to remove it all and reapply.

I’ll give it a few days to cure completely before cleaning the roof.

Found similar to that on my coach after idiot dealer service apparently sent two young imbeciles up on my roof with a case of caulk telling them to "seal everything." He told me "it will cost you extra because we will have to remove your vent covers and then put them back" ... obviously they didn't. I was back the next day for a re-do after finding they did not do the side seams as I had requested, and after my tirade they put a much older and experienced tech on the job. All their sloppy stuff peeled off in a year or so because they had not even cleaned it before slopping the caulk on. Original caulk was still good.

It is amazing what a little soap/water can/ does do, and ALWAYS use soaps BEFORE solvents
