We have Progressive Ins., they were recomended by our auto ins company. our MH is covered no matter where it is, sitting or traveling an our MH is insure for replacement for the first 5 years.

I also have Progressive. In South Florida they have the best coverage, T&Cs and the best price.

I have Foremost have never had a claim so I have nothing to compare to......

Just got a flyer in the mail from Camping World re their insurance program. I don't use them, as I said above, but I see they show a storage option in their program.

Take a look at campingworldinsurance.com/code/fx or call 877-851-9697 and use savings code YW-FX.

You never know.

I'm a broker in Florida and your rig is almost certainly NOT covered under any circumstance by a home owners policy. Neither are you vehicles regardless if they are stored in your garage or not. Its not covered. If your agent tells you otherwise its important you verify with the company underwriters themselves because at least in Mass and FL there is no coverage for any motor vehicle by a home policy. Most states use the ISO standard and that is a normal policy exclusion.

Contents are often covered at a percentage basis off premises, normally 10% of regular coverage but I've never heard of a home policy covering a motorhome or any motor vehicle.

Also, if you let coverage lapse on a vehicle policy you lose a proof of prior insurance discount which is very hefty. Normally companies will either ask for it or proof of a new purchase to get the discount. That might vary in your state but worth checking on.

I recently got a flyer from Good Sam about insurance. Their policy was more than twice as much as I currently pay for all my vehicles through AARP the Hartford. I believe the Good Sam is through GMAC. I did note they had a storage clause as long as the coach was not to be in service for at least a month. My AARP policy does not have this clause for the motorhome, but does have it for my cars. Go figure!
At any rate, you might want to check out AARP / The Hartford. Ive had windshield claim and storm damage claim...both handled promptly and completely to my satisfaction.

Insurance rates vary widely with location, vehicle year/make/model and numerous personal factors, so do not assume that another person's "great price" is applicable to you.

And like Aridon, I am very skeptical that your home owner's coverage will cover any motor vehicle loss while it is stored on your property (stored trailers may be covered in some cases) and would definitely ask for a statement in writing from the agency or better yet the underwriter. A written statement from the agency at least will allow you to make a claim against their own business "errors & omissions" insurance (assuming they have it) if the underwriter later denies coverage.

Failure to maintain vehicle liability insurance is also a violation the law in some states, so check with your DMV. You may need to surrender your license plates if you cancel coverage.

GMAC (available through GS, Camping Worlds and elsewhere) has RV insurance that has a reduced rate for storage periods. May be enough to offset any difference in rates.

AARP Hartford has an excellent motorhome policy at typically decent rates but no storage option. We use National Interstate through their ExplorerRV agency (www.explorerrv.com) but no storage period discount there either.

Thanks all, I have ended with the GMAC/ Camping World for all vehicles inc rv. Very appealing the way the storage rate works. Worth anyone looking at.
