Insurance issues
Currently our motor home and cars are insured through Good Sam (Allstate) with the storage provision where the liability insurance is suspended while the motor home isn't being used. Two cars and the motor home cost $3400 annually which doesn't include the cost when we take the motor home out of storage. I would like to know what others are paying for insurance.

I'm on Long Island, Bohemia NY. Seems most of my vehicles are around $2k per year. The RV is always insured.

It's kinda hard to provide any insurance cost comparisons without knowing the value of the items being insured. So, what types are your motorhome & cars?

Agreed. And location and level of coverage are also important. Some have the liability at basic state mins, some have several million. I like 300/500. Some have uninsured and underinsured, like me. I live in rural Idaho, and alot of folks leave their keys in the car so they can find them. Do that in other parts the country and you won't be able to find your car.
That being said, I have three daily drivers well insured at about $500/6-month for all 3, and the motorhome at about $1500/year, all thru Progressive. I also have three classics very well insured at a bit over $500/year thru Hagerty. We are also empty nesters with 800+ credit scores, both of those help.

Rates vary wildly between states. Value, usage, coverages selected and coverage limits, exposure to risk all affect rates. I'm in SC and:
2021 Jeep Gladiator, 2017 Mini Cooper Convertible - $1,591 full coverage, including RSS.
2025 Gulfstream BTCruiser - $971 full coverage, including RSS

Too many variables to make any valid comparisons.
Car value and model age
RV value and type
Deducible amount
Liability limits - Year round camping so no storage discount
Driver Age
Driving record
Credit score
Claim history
Location. Florida insurance laws make everyone in Florida pay to ensure the State's homeowners insurance pool remains liquid. Even if you don't have homeowners insurance.
Occupation
Projected mileage.
I pay considerably less, but my fleet is a 2004 F150, 2012 Honda Fit, 2013 Accord, 2016 Sprinter Class C. All paid off. I'm retired. No moving violations. No claims in 20 years. I also have a higher deductible than most folks.

Rates vary by ZIP code, the types and limits of coverage, any additional coverage or benefits, and the age/value of the assets being insured.
IOW, if you're not sure how you measure up, you need to call other agents and get quotes for identical coverage and see how much variation in premium costs.

I went with a new insurance company last year after my premium went way up. Got 3 competitive quotes for the same package. Saved a bunch of money. Insurance company is Erie Ins, a smaller regional company in the midwest.
Bundled home and autos. RV is bundled with autos and the cost is ~$200/year for the RV with an allowance of 6 months of use. Declared value is $57K which we negotiated and agreed on,
I think it's a fair value, no I couldn't find another RV to the quality of mine but it's 23 years old so what would I expect.
Driving record is clean, no violations or accidents. Excellent credit score. I make one annual payment. It all counts.

Here is how auto/RV insurance works:
You get policy written for decent rate.
You have policy and have no claims.
6mo later your rate goes up.
You keep policy.
At 12mo it goes up more.
Still no claims.
Again at 24 mo rate goes up.
Still no claims.
You decide to shop around and find better rate for same exact coverage.
You have new policy with no claims.
6mo later your rate goes up.
You keep policy.
At 12mo rate goes up.
Still no claims.
Again new policy rate goes up at 24mo.
You decide to shop around and find better rate for same exact coverage.
You can do this until 6 years after you had the first coverage you contact that SAME company, and get a quote for the SAME coverage, and get a cheaper premium than you did when you left them. It’s stupid but essentially how it works.
The idea is to shop around every 24 months. Literally make a note to shop around after two years of the same coverage.

Erie writes auto insurance in 11 states. The started in Erie PA and for the longest time only served a few nearby states. I've had them over 25 years and they are still the most reasonable I can find.

Insurance issues
Thanks to all who replied to my question. I can see there are a lot of variables I need to consider.
I am going to start shopping for lower rates in the morning.

Progressive advertises liability insurance from $125/year, and they do not have exceptional credit requirements for that rate, nor does it go up in the second year. Obviously not available in no fault states, and others also I'm sure.
