Is there a need to caulk compartment doors

Wondering if compartment doors need to sealed with caulk. I have never seen any indication that the actual door is sealed. I am not talking about the outer frame work of the door, but the actual door. Seems that the actual trim securing the door should/would be caulked. Appreciate some info. Thanks in advance.

NO; each door is sealed with a neoprene gasket,(usually a "D" shape), to seal out water and dirt.

I'll back up a full step.


If you don't get water in while using a garden hose on the outside, do NOTHING.


If you do get water inside, determine what OE seal/gasket has failed and fix it.

What I think we have here is a failure to communicate. I'm pretty sure he gets how a door and weather seal works, that you don't caulk them closed lol. Are you talking about some inner panel or the outer skin ,the way they are put together on your style bay doors ? A pic is worth a 1000 words ,the IRV2 phone app is easy to post pics and works on same login..

There are several types of compartment doors and several construction methods for the doors themselves. There is no one size fits all answer.
