It’s going to happen moment.

I was driving down interstate 85 when alarms and check engine light came on. Once I made it to the shoulder cussing at the idiots that would not let me over.
My engine belt broke, thank goodness I have a side radiator and carry a spare belt and 2 foot breaker bar. Back on freeway in 30 minutes. My advise carry a spare belt and take and print a picture of belt diagram and put with belt.

I had the exact same thing happen to me, but I was on I-95. Luckily It worked out for me.

Now whenever I change belts I keep the old one for a spare. You never know.

Just be sure the replacement spare they give you is the correct one.

You should also go through the steps visually to change one. On a Cummins, you need a breaker bar and correct socket that will release the belt tensioner and usually one box end wrench.

whoever invented the serpentine belt should be shot. I like the *old days* when you had a couple belts.

When it became apparent that even double " V " belts were slipping due to the load; mostly due to uneven stretching , 6/7/&8 rib serpentine belts with auto tensioners were inevitable.

Yeah, but usually easier to do a serpentine w/ spring loaded tensioner than multiple adjustable belts that squeal, then the one that breaks is the one that required the other two to be removed to access?

Surpentine belts can last 100+k miles versus 30k for v-belts. And there is only 1 belt. On a v-belt system it always the inner that breaks so you gotta remove the outer one too. Surpentine belts rarely slip. They are more efficient in transmitting power. V-belts are way old school, gone 30 years ago thank god. There is only one tensioner easily replaced and released.
