Hi I live in Canada I am thinking about a new or like new motor home and need the facts about the import of a U.S. made unit pros & cons can I buy a used unit?Is the red tape hard to cut?Is the idea good or bad?I am looking at a Diesel pusher and thinking 36'to 40'2slides/loaded up unit.Not into any rental or smokey/dog/cat unit.Any tips,Ideas,Help?I am all ears!!Thanks for Your time John..

The short answer is yes - I know some Canadians who have done so, both new and used. From what they have said, it was not a big deal. Most US built vehicles will meet Canadian standards.


If you deal with a US dealer near the border, they probably already have some experience in the paperwork for export to Canada. There are also firms that specialize in handling the details of import/export. I don't know how expensive they are.

Check with your provincial motor vehicle office - they should be able to tell you the procedure for importing a vehicle. You can also get information from the Canadian Registrar of Imported Vehicles web site - see http://www.riv.ca/
