Kwikee Step not so Kwikee
My 3 year old Kwikee Steps Series 32 just quit working in the closed position. Magnet is fine, override switch seems to be working. When you open the MH door the "step" light comes on. Could this be a bad control?

Take a hammer and tap the motor a couple of times, If it works then the motor is probably going bad.

Our controller board & motor went out last summer. Both replaced.

I had a similar problem. There is a gear on the end of the motor that turns the gear to lift the step (all enclosed) Turns out that the gears were never greased with axle or front wheel bearing grease. Greased it with Lithium 1200a and works fine.

kwikee step solution
I just wanted to post a follow up on my dead kwikee steps. Instead of paying $150 diagnostic fee to the rv dealer I went on line and purchased a new gear & controller kit which included all necessary hardware to make my step like new. Total price $219 and about 1 hour of DIY labor. Step works like a charm now. (Man was my back about to give out letting my wife use me as the missing step! Whew!) David

Could be a bad control or a froze motor or a dead spot
Take a hammer, with the door closed crawl under and KEEP CLEAR OF THE STEPS THEMSELVES.. using the handle of the hammer "Tunk" the motor a few times..
Then either crawl out and open the door or have partner do it
I have had to do that 2 or 3 times on occasion
If that works,, Get back with me.

I see it has been 2 weeks since your post, but if you are still having problems check the power plug for corosion or broken wires. had to cut mine out and splice the wires together. also one of the wires at the plug should be grounded on the frame. make sure it has a clean connection. most important when you are checking things BEWARE that the step could open and hurt you if you or your fingers are in the wrong place.
