You should have three fuses. You will also want to verify that the chassis batteries are charged as well. There is usually a 30 amp main fuse from the chassis battery feeding the large red wire feeding the steps. A 15 amp fuse for the ignition source (only hot with key on). and a 15 amp fuse for the switch side. You can contact Jayco for specific locations if you cannot find them.

Also make sure the sensor on the door is working. This senses if the door is open or closed, and it may need to be adjusted. The steps may not go in if they think the door is open.

Another thing to check, that is easy is the step lite. If its on, the power is going to the steps. On ours the steps will sometimes stay in the closed position. It is the motor is jamming at the top. I have to drop the motor to free the system. Marvh

Kwikee Step Lube

And after you get the steps working, I would spray all moving parts about every 4-6 weeks with this stuff. Slicker than baby snot.

On my Kwikee steps, they stopped working, had power etc. Then open closed door again and heard motor working. Turned out to be the stud on the fulcrum to open/close step had sheared and jammed. Took main plate off and drilled and tapped it and put a grade 8 stainless bolt back in and it works great. If you have power and all else looks good like mine, it might be this. The stud that was original was pretty soft and I can see why it sheared after so many open/closes.

I don't have an extended warranty, but did you read the entire contract before signing including all of the fine print? Did you read what they DON"T cover? There are so many companies offering these contracts that you need to completely understand what they DO cover and what they DON'T cover to eliminate your situation.

Sorry for the inconvenience and I hope that the controller is really the problem and not something else. Some of these shops are "Parts Replacer's" versus diagnostic mechanics. I hope that your shop is a good one.

Happy Holidays, Richard.

DR4film quoted this.....Some of these shops are "Parts Replacer's" versus diagnostic mechanics.

No truer words were spoken, and usually it's the high priced parts that are fairly easy to change. First a couple of things to check. If your steps have a small light on the top of them (better to check @ night time) it comes on when you open the door that activates the switch to open the steps. If this light is working chances are the Controller is OK. The most common problem these steps have is poor ground. Find the ground wire which will be close to the steps, take it loose (should be several wires) and wire brush the Frame where was connected, then re-install. You should also find a four wire square plug, unplug and make sure it is clean. Good Luck,
David G.

Stuck step

I have worked on my steps several times in different motor homes. One tech at Kwkiee told me that the nilon gears inside of the unit get bent in on direction if the step is stored in one position for long periods. For some reason this flexing causes the controler not to respond. After taking it all apart and doing some bench testing I got the unit to work. I now store the steps down for a while, then leave them up for a while. I lube them a lot.

Just make sure that the power is off and the linch pin is pulled when working under the step so not to get injured
