Born2RV,
Don't know what year your coach is but I just renewed in MI last week and ours ran $317.00. Wonder if they charge more for a diesel. That wouldn't really make much sense. You might want to contact the state maybe they made a mistake. Wouldn't hurt to call them.

Michigan's Motorhome license fees are based on value so there will be a wide range of costs depending on the age and value of your unit. When new, they use the selling price as a starting basis and the renewal fee goes down as the unit ages.

Yeah, cb5300, I can't wait either.
It's going to cost all of $0 in personal property taxes.

I am talking about Louisiana, $50 for two year retired law enforcement plate, state sales tax 4%, property tax on $250000 property $370.

Welcome to Louisiana, the state with good food and friendly people.

P.S. no property tax on motorhome.

I just received my DMV registration notice, $373 for the next year and I get the privilege of about $100 for a smog inspection.

Like DandS says, Michigan starts with the selling price but only depreciates it for 3 years. after that it's locked in and never lowers any more after that. Ours was about 8 years old when I purchased it and THEY decided what it was worth new and went from there. That just didn't seem right but what could a guy say?

If a person in Michigan removed the plate from their car and put it on their motorhome for say 3 months while touring with it. The thought being that the difference in the cost of the ticket may very well be much cheaper purchasing plates and worth the risk. This person would be carrying the original title in the safe in board in case they were pulled over. I wonder if the insurance company would have an issue if the fully insured Motorhome was involved in an accident and or damaged?

WOW .... some of you are paying thru the wazoo !!! $76 per year in VT or $140 for 2 years. No personal property tax. Pay registration tax at the time of purchase and if you sell or trade something in first then you can deduct that amount from the purchase price of the newer one. For example you sell one for $20K and purchase one for $50K then you pay a 6% tax on just the difference of $30K.

The weather here stinks for an easy 6 months but our fees are far more reasonable than some of you.

The insurance is separate from the plate. You can have full insurance and and no plate.

The legal way of transferring a plate from one vehicle to another is trough Michigan DMV and costs around $10. BUT, you cannot transfer a car plate to a motorhome plate. License plate renewal for high priced vehicles especially motorhomes is absurdly out of line. For example, the renewal fee for my 08 Signature is around $2,800 a year. Because I use my motorhome recreationally I only buy a temporary plate for a short time.

WINNER! WINNER! Please tell me you don't also have a state income tax.

Texas goes by weight. 40200 = $560. No state income tax. No personal property tax. Just high real estate property taxes. That's how they finance our schools.
