I purchase the 33 oz Tonic and drink about half the bottle before bed. Thinking about putting a little Gin in with to give a little kick.

Long drive — leg cramps

Try a little exercise in your Captain’s chair... Use your foot to help you push your lower back into your chair, clench your butt cheeks and suck in your tummy for a count of 10. Repeat X3. Remember to breathe. Good luck!

Leg Cramp Solution

First, it is important to pull over every couple of hours & walk around to prevent blood clots. For leg cramps, there is an outstanding product on the market called THERAWORX RELIEF. (You can get this in most drug stores; I buy mine at Walmart) I use the foam version. You rub this on your legs to prevent leg cramps. It really works. I think it is mostly a topical magnesium. Everyone I talk to, & I mean everyone that I know has used it says it works. I have a history of leg cramps & since I have been using it, I have never gotten a cramp. My doctor told me it was completely safe.

All - Should have added, I take two tablespoons of Barges Organic Cider Vinegar in the morning before anything else. This helps my digestion, (one fellow swore it help his arthritis). Don't know if it has magnesium in it or not, but I don't get cramps for any reason after starting this. I did it for my stomach since all those remedies have bad effect on the heart.

Two swallows of pickle juice works for me. Or four to fiver Gerkins. Before I remembered the pickle juice remedy I drank 1 can of V-8 juice (original) every day. It helped the RLS, but Took longer and more cans once the cramps kicked in.

About 2 swallows of pickle juice for me too. When I used to use tonic water, it was about 4 swallows, and it took longer for the relief to kick in.

Great point, I think most on this thread are 65+ and getting annual wellness checks

I watch my blood test closely and therefore the two K, Mg, and B daily which takes care of the cramps

Poor circulation and leg cramps - you must be getting older - smile. I take a 250mg Magnesium tablet daily and rarely have leg cramps night or day. It is an OTC supplement you can buy at most pharmacies. Dehydration can also be a source of leg cramps. I am prone to it. Thus, I take one sleeve of powdered Drip Drop in a 12oz glass of water. It is also an OTC supplement. I have not had a syncope episode since I started the treatment. Its formula is recommended by the World Health Organization. The formula helps the body absorb water into its cells. You can buy it in the baby section of most pharmacies. Of course, check with your physician before trying any of this. Hope it helps. Rob

Wow - so many suggestions. Thanks fellow suffers.

I went back and counted (as best I could) the matching recommendations.
It goes something like this:

Potassium (pills, bananas, etc.) -- 14
Water (stay hydrated) ------------ 9
Tonic water/Quinine -------------- 8
Magnesium ------------------------ 9
Pickle juice. mustard, other ------ 6

There were other good suggestions that didn't fit in any category.

So, I'm going to take a "Potassium and Magnesium" supplement followed up with plenty of Water or Tonic Water (Quinine).

And stopping for stretching and short walks every hour or so while on long drives.

Other than pulling over and walking around for a bit, are there any tips or remedies that I can use so I can get a few more hours of driving in before needed to stop for the night?
Have you had an iron panel (including ferritin and iron sat %) recently?
Potassium tested?

RLS is classed as primary or secondary. Mine is secondary and is triggered by low ferritin and/or iron sat%. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19514514
There is also no family history in mine. Most primary doctors don’t look for the cause, they just treat. I figured it out myself.

Leg cramp releif

I have been fighting the leg cramp battle for 30 years or so.
Every night before I go to bed I drink a big full glass of water with any RX pills I need to take.

If you drink coffee a lot like I do or beer, drink water or Gator aid before you might expect the cramps to happen.

The pickle juice works for some people and not for all is what I hear.

An Internal Medicine specialist Dr. gave me a RX for some really strong Potassium pills and that was a giant help. Now I just take a couple of over the counter pills at the times I expect the cramps to happen. Eat bananas if you are hungry but they really are not medicinal. LOL

Exercise is important and so is drinking water. Not coffee or beer. : ( Although both are somewhat good for you in moderation.)

See which one works for you. We are all different.

All reasonable suggestions. If they all prove to be ineffective, you might consider asking your doc about the possibility of spinal stenosis as a cause. It can be pretty sneaky.
