Main Cutoff (Salesman) Switch

I am in need of a replacement Main/Auxiliary shut off toggle switch that is mounted above the coach door. The switch(es) is commonly referred to as a “Salesman Switch.” I have been in contact with Fleetwood/REV and the part # F22-2066 is obsolete and they do not and cannot recommend a replacement. The switch is marked as follows;

R13-66
10A125vac
5A250vac maybe 6A250vac
1a/2a/3a

It has 6 connections.

Google searches show 15 & 20 A switches but no 10A125VAC coupled with a 6A250VAC. Can I put in a 15A125VAC to replace the 10A or am I in danger of an overload and fire? Is it possible to put an in line fuse in to trip before an overload? I am not electrically savvy. Thanks in advance.

Main Cutoff (Salesman) Switch

The higher rating is fine. The amp rating is the current load the switch can operate. Any load less than the rated amperage is good.

The switch controls a 12 volt circuit and will only pass the amount of power in the already fused supply wire .
The switch rating is the max the switch can control , so a higher rating is not a problem .

I believe that in our coach that switch controls the 12VDC cutoff relay. I just had to order a new relay for our coach because I lost all 12VDC inside. You might want to check a wiring diagram to see if your coach has a cutoff relay. The problem may not be the switch.

Are you sure the switch is your problem, that style switch just controls a remote battery disconnect relay and does not carry any appreciable current itself.

Hi Fred-

A google search for 'R13-66 DPDT rocker switch' returned a whole bunch of results so I can see why it's confusing. A higher amp rating on the switch is perfectly acceptable; you don't want to use a lower rating than the part you are replacing.

Are you sure it was the battery disconnect relay that was replaced and not the relay that combines the two sets of batteries for emergency starts?

Why not just cut this "salesman switch" from the circuit completely and install a manual battery disconnect at the batteries? My coach's salesman switch was toast, and my RV guy simply disabled it and installed a manual battery disconnect switch in the battery bay. The issue with my salesman switch was that the solenoid was toast and it was just going to cost too much money to fix it.

My replacement disconnect relay was only $27.00

To put your mind at easy a 15A125VAC switch will work just fine and should last many years for what you are using it for.

A switch rating of 15A @ 125VAC can handle 1250 watts of energy. Since the circuit is actually 12VDC circuit you could push 100 amps of 12VDC power thru the switch without problems but best not to. The disconnect circuit is probably fused at 5A @ 12VDC (60 watts) as mine is.

Old thread I know, but no no no, amperage is what load ratings are for. Voltage ratings are for what a device will not short out at, watts has nothing to do with what the switch will carry in a practical environment.

The HIGHER rating is fine, but hope you know that this switch (most likely) operates a solenoid, so if you have problems, they MIGHT WELL be in the solenoid? 2) Also possible you can find a workable 6-wire replacement at a local auto parts? Is it toggle 2-position, (stays in either position) or spring loaded Momentary 2-position (Returns to position after released) or 3-position? (Springs to Center and then momentary Up or Down?)
