What do Traffic Updates have to do with Bridge height restrictions? How did you draw that conclusion?

I don't think you pay extra for traffic. You just download the Garmin Drive app to your smartphone and pair that to your 780.

Via the SmartLink App the Live Traffic is free. You can purchase Advanced Weather and photoLive for a few dollars.
I use the App all the time and it seems to work great.

He floored me by telling me my Garmin had lifetime "Mapr" updates but the drivers had not been updated and it would be $135 fee to update the drivers to allow the map updates.

This is pure garbage IMHO and simply a $ grab by Garmin
If they advertise free map updates but don't tell you the driver needs to be updated very 3 mos or the "fail" / self destruct it is just a marketing scam to me.

I guess it's the last Garmin product I will buy
Encourage others to BE AWARE - There are no FREE LIFETIME MAP UPDATES

Be sure you are talking to Garmin. Third parties are trying to sell Base Camp and other Garmin Freebies, on line.

Plus 1 on this. Make absolutely sure you are talking to Garmin. I have heard of this scam before. There is an app called Garmin Express that you need to install on your computer that is used to perform updates on Garmin devices. I have always had good luck updating my Garmin devices with that. You should be able to download and install it directly from Garmin's web site.

Garmin Express is the tool to use to update maps. I know the 770 is supposed to be able do it itself via WiFi but I don't trust my WiFi. I have been using Garmin Express since it came out (10+ years?). I have never had a problem with map updates, even if they haven't been updated for over a year.

Garmin express can be used to update the software/firmware as well.

Unlike the 770, the 780 includes the HD Traffic receiver as part of the power cable, just like car GPS's do. You also can get it from Drive as you noted.

My 770 came with the HD Traffic receiver power cable. But I haven't used it since I connected the 770 to my cell phone for traffic.
