Mamy and Peepaw
Hello, my husband and I, Dennis and Amy, otherwise known as Mamy and Peepaw just bought our first RV. We bought a 2012 Fleetwood 35' Bounder. It has 40,000 miles and seems to be in very good condition. We bought it thru Holiday World in Alvarado, Texas in April. Unbeknownst to us at the time, they are not a Fleetwood dealer. They were selling it on consignment. After we bought it and brought it home, we discovered the refrigerator door will not stay sealed and the lock on the outside TV panel will not lock. There were a few other small things that needed to be fixed (as would be expected in a preowned vehicle). We made an appointment last Friday with Holiday to get them fixed. After driving an hour there and waiting for about 3 hours they told us they were not a Fleetwood dealer and that they didn't have the parts needed to fix the major things nor did their mechanics know how to work on them. They recommended we have go across I35 to a Fleetwood service and parts place. They charged us $168 to fix the small issues because they said they weren't covered under the extended warranty. To add to this, when we did our walk through upon buying it, we got very few questions answered so when we went on our maiden staycation at a park near our home, we basically knew nothing. Everything was working fine until about 10:30pm when suddenly the lights dimmed and the A/C quit working. We unplugged from the city electric and turned on the generator but the same thing happened. We shut everything
down, went to bed and packed up and came home Sunday. We are very frustrated and will do no further business with Holiday World. I have since discovered that most dealers allow buyers, whether, new or used to stay at the dealership the first night to get help and questions answered. Any suggestions for DFW rookies to get some help and questions answered?? Help??

Glad to have you here in the forum with us.
Congrats on your new Fleetwood. Your service, or lack of service is unfortunately something that permeates the RV world. After a lot of searching I finally located a service tech who really knows what he is doing and will do the repairs and maintenance correctly. That may be a step you need to take as well. Make inquiries at campgrounds near you for mobile tech services.
Good luck.
Happy Trails!!!

Thanks. A fellow teacher of mine is a veteran RVer and he told me today about a person he uses here in the DFW area. We are going to see him and he said he has an overnight camp for his buyers but since we didn't buy from him we can't do that for free. We will be glad to pay him to walk us through our rig, but our dealer should have done that. It's the principal of the matter.

First off, welcome to IRV2 and the best bunch of "experts" ever!
The lights dimming and the AC stopping sounds like either a house battery issue or a converter problem. The lights are powered by the house batteries on 12v, which are then charged by the converter. The AC issue can be related because the thermostat also runs off of 12v so if the battery voltage dropped it could cause the thermostat to quit working. With the batteries on, plugged into shore power check the voltage to the batteries. If the converter is working properly, you should see about 13.2 volts. Anything below 12.5 means the converter is not charging the batteries.
If you don't have any luck with your tech, then I recommend Blue Moon RV repair in Carrollton. They are either a mobile service or you can take it to their shop.

Nothing you listed is a "Fleetwood" issue; appliances, compartment locks, converters...they are all the same basic units/brands on all RVs, not RV-brand specific. Your selling dealer just didn't want to service you.

We have another concern regarding towing. We bought a 2017 manual transmission Jeep Compass to tow 4 down. It says in the owners manual that it is towable. However, it is a keyless start and when you put it in ACC and neutral the steering wheel is still not loose. He is losing sleep over whether it can be towed 4 down. How do we find out for sure?

According to Remco HERE it looks like it will have to be towed on a dolly.
