Microwave problem

I installed a high end Panasonic microwave/convection oven in my Roadtrek and while I was using it on the Onan 2.8 for about 5 minutes I went to restart it and it logged a code for Service unit and wouldn't restart.
When I got home I took it to the Panasonic guy and he reset it and it does work now but I wondered if it is happening because the power from the Onan isn't clean enough for this fancy unit. Any one have issues with electronics on the gen set power?

What is the THD spec on your Onan? If your new microwave has very sensitive electronics, I'd have to guess that your generator should have a THD of less than 3%.

I'm not an expert at this stuff but I'd be interested when the experts at the electronics stuff post to this thread and what they'll have to say.

I just read specs from a company selling Onan 2800 gasoline generators, and they claim it is pure sine wave, so you should have clean power.

Is your microwave built into a cabinet, and if so does it have plenty of ventilation around it? Some of the microwaves built into RVs, including mine, have less than optimal (cheap and small) trim kits. Especially with a convection microwave, you' really need a lot of air circulation, otherwise it's going to overheat and shut down. I just have a basic microwave in mine, so I don't worry about the cheap trim kit. Microwaves like yours actually have factory trim kits that you're supposed to use, and they do make sure you have plenty of room around the microwave, and enough air circulation.

So you are saying the ONAN logged a service code and would not start? It is a true generator (unless it is a new 2800i) and yes it would be pure sine wave. however if the generator was off speed the Hz would be off spec. I would find an ONAN service center as they will know more about these than anyone else.
