Microwave Replacement Options

I have a 2000 Gulf motorhome with a Sharp R-312AK microwave.
The display no longer works on the micro and I cannot find another micro that will fit as a replacement to this one. The micro still works... you just can't see the display.

The current one has the metal trim piece on the front, so it needs to be pretty close in dimensions for a replacement.
11.20" Tall, 20.50" Wide.

Anyone ever replace this?

This seems to be a common problem with that particular Sharp model that was used in RVs years ago. However, as you can probably guess, it's more expensive to fix it than to replace it. I think I remember that the control board or one of the circuit boards has to be replaced.

I do have in my notes that several replaced the R-312AK with several Farberware models.

One that's currently available is the Farberware FMO11AHTBSJ

Here it is at Home Depot:

Black 1.1 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave in Black Stainless Steel with Smart Sensor and Inverter Technology

Of course, I'm not certain what faceplate measurements these other RVers were using as I don't believe it was a "Gulf motorhome" but they did say that they had to drill additional holes in the oven in order for it to attach to the existing mounting provisions.

The cutout dimensions for the FMO11AHTBSJ are:

12" high
20" width left to right
17" depth front to back

Measure your faceplate again to see if it will fit. If not, I suppose there's always the possibility to have someone make a custom faceplate for you.

Thanks, I'll check it out.
I'm getting the feeling I'll probably need to make a new faceplate to hold a different model in as getting one that is the same dimensions is probably going to be difficult.

A company called Micro-Trim can make you a custom faceplate. They just need the opening dimensions, the model of your microwave, and any other information like how much it can overlap on the cabinet.

The replacement microwave I got was brushed stainless so I used brushed stainless to make filler panels. I'd thought about a storage area for spices, but with the heat from the stove below and microwave I didn't know how well they'd do long term.

We replaced our Sharp microwave/convection oven in our Safari with the Apollo Half Time OTC microwave/connection oven. We loved it.
