Motorhome Insurance huge increase

Our insurance just came up due, we used National General through Good Sams. They just tried to pass a 40% increase to our coverage. We use the motorhome for six months, not very often and store it in a heated garage when we aren't using it. According to National General the 40% increase is standard.

So we quoted multiple companies, ended up with Progressive and got the same rate/coverage as we had with National.

Just wanted to see if anyone else had similar issues this year.

They do it because they think they can...evidently, it must work with some folks. You did the right thing. Reshop it.

Always make your agent shop for you. That's why you pay them.

If they don't shop for you they are the wrong agent for you:thumb. I have always had my agent do the shopping. Twenty five years and the same agent. But I have gone through numerous insurance company's.

We have been with progressive for three years I just received our renewal notice eighty dollars less than last year. Make sure to get the towing the price is right and when I had to use it I was more than happy with their service. Others may have had different experiences with them but I'm satisfied.

Yep, my National General insurance went from about $1300 every six months (mh plus four cars) to over $2800 every six months. Needless to say, I actively engaged in searching for a new insurance company and wound up with Geico. Of course, in six months, I'll probably be looking again.

I just don't know what it is with these insurance companies raising their rates drastically for no reason.

We saved $ 300 by switching to Progressive from GMAC, but the big issue for us was their coverage while travelling in Mexico.

We just got our renewal in from Progressive. We are full timers. There was an $11 increase for the year....not even a dollar a month, I can live with that.

They all do it. Those with Progressive will eventually get Flo'd! We had Progressive and in year four they almost doubled. Many throughout the country saw the same thing at that time.

My feeling....the insurance companies will NEVER show an allegiance to you, so don't worry about showing one to them. The minute they go up, go shopping!

I guess Marcus Lemonis needed to add to the bottom line

Just went through this with Blue Sky. Definitely you have to shop around (or have your agent do it) to find the best rates.

Just dropped Hartford AARP on 2 cars and motorhome . Went to national Good Sam for almost $500 less. You have to keep switching. They all go up once they think they have you.

If you live in So. California, consider Auto Club of So. Calif. We have 7 vehicles insured with them, and I find the rates to be overall very reasonable for our variety of vehicles (1-MH, 2-roadsters, 2-motorcycles, & 2-passenger cars). They have various discounts applied, but it's only ~$1600 for a year.

We had the same thing happen with National General. They were hitting us with a forty percent increase so I checked with my homeowner policy company. I got the same coverage for less than last year's NG price.

Progressive did the same thing last year on my motorcycle and blamed it on a change in credit rating. They claimed to have checked Experian, but I contacted Experian and was told no credit check was done by Progressive. They lost my motorcycle and two cars over that fiasco.
