Multiple items stopped working
I full time it in a 2004 Fleetwood Bounder, Turbo Diesel, Cummins, Allison, on a Freightliner Custom Chassis. During the drive north on I-39 heading to Oshkosh, I had noticed the dash fan was no longer blowing nice cool A/C on me. Then also noticed that a dash camera, powered by the cigarette lighter outlet chimed that it was shutting down. The 12DC power outlet I use has a little light when powered up and that had gone out.
Conveniently, I pulled over at a rest area to check it out. A quick check of the fuses under the dash showed none that were blown. I had another DC outlet over the shoulder of the Co-Pilot chair, so I rigged my electronics to be powered from that outlet so I could finish my drive.
Wanted to clear a bug splat off of the windshield (as I had just done earlier on this drive) and found that the windshield wipers also didn’t work.
That made three items off the dash that stopped working, apparently at the same time.
Thought this must be easy to find out why, but I haven’t been able to find out what happened.
Here’s what I’ve troubleshot so far:
Fuses: Didn’t make much sense that it could be one fuse since 3 different items stopped working. I still pulled out my list of all fuses around the rig and proceeded to pull and check them with a multimeter. No blown fuses, but did replace a few that I didn’t like.
Batteries: Back in the battery compartment, I did locate a jumper going from one set to the other that had broken off. Pulled it out and found a truck repair place that was able to put a new copper lug on the existing cable. Then replaced it and continued my troubleshooting. Batteries are only 6 months old. Chassis batteries (two 12 volts) all had tight connections. Batteries individually appeared to have the proper voltages.
Other observations: The chassis batteries continue to operate normally. Engine starts up, steps come in, alarms and lights operate as expected. Jacks operate, step operates, powered sun visors operate, back up camera operates, radio operates. No other gauges on the console have a problem.
This was a sudden onset. Three different systems yet there must be something common. Have some diagrams that I got years ago to track down a different problem.
I just don’t see a path to finding out what happened. I post this to see if some of the brain power on IRV2 may come together with a few more ideas! Help!

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere on the + 12v side
Are there any other devices that use ignition power ( power that comes on with key) working? If not it could be a bad ignition relay.
You should hear the relay click with key on. May need someone to turn key while your at relay panel. Once you know which one it is, swap it with another relay as test.
If relay good, I would test for 12v at each of the fuses with a test light. The light puts a load on circuit and is a better test than voltmeter.
If the subject fuses are hot, the issue is downstream of the fuse box.
You’ll have to get access to the wiring behind dash and look for 12v power on wiper wiring, check at switch, there should be a hot with key on.
And use test light to confirm no power on the 12v lighter outlet maybe the cam fuse blew for some reason and not associated with the other as it seems.

Hi Jim! Welcome to IRV2! We’re sure glad you joined the gang here!
I would look for an inline fuse behind the dash!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I seem to recall on old thread years ago that had to do with almost the same symptoms you are describing. I can't remember what motorhome or year it was but it turned out to be the fusible link in the battery compartment that had to be "reset"(?). I can't remember the exact details as it was come time ago but I'll do a search and see if I can find that thread.
edited to add:
It was on a 1999 Fleetwood diesel pusher and the thread was over ten years ago. Maybe look for that fusible link and put your meter on it to check.

SWAG: Since I believe all items you noted are IGN controlled, suspicion would be a PLUG-IN CUBE RELAY failed? But could also be a higher amp fuse under hood, or a 12vdc CIRCUIT BREAKER under hood that feeds power to that relay. Good Luck.

Thanks, Jon. I do have other things that work once the key is on. Steps, sun shades, radio for example. I agree that it may be a relay, so I have a plan to check my relays. I've now arrived at Oshkosh where I have numerous RVers here that want to help me track this down. I certainly will update as I learn more.
BTW, I am running to a store to get me a test light. It is something I've been missing in my tool kit. Time to correct that.

Thanks, Shootist!
I know that there may be a common ground problem and hope to search around and check. I'll let you know.

Now that I've arrived in Oshkosh, I've got the ability to start real troubleshooting. I've received good ideas, now I need to see what it might be.

Power restored!
Okay, I was able to confirm from wiring diagrams that all of the items that I mentioned were coming from the same power line. The fuses for all three items, Wipers, Accessory Power, and Heat/AC fan were on the same fuse bank. I focused my search thinking it was a fuse or relay gone bad. The test light allowed me to verify fuses and I set up a test area for all of the relays. Everything there was fine, although there was still no power.
Got help from a local diesel repair shop.
They found a wire coming from the chassis batteries had fallen down off the rails and rubbed itself through against the shaft. Once the wire was spliced and resecured, power was restored to my dash items.
On one hand, I wish I could have noticed that earlier, but on the other hand, I'm super pleased that I'm back up and running.
Thanks to all for your suggestions.
