I say regardless on what condition the tires appear to look like on the outside that running any tire on any vehicle that is 12 years old is asking for trouble. Taking them to a tire shop and having somebody of unknown qualifications look at the tires and say they look OK is not good. If the tire shop knew anything about tires they would have told you to get rid of a tire that is over ten years old regardless. The fact that the tire guy told you that 12 year old tires were still good would make me question his knowledge. In my opinion that tire shop guy should be sued if you had a blowout because that is just plain irresponsible of him.
If you want the truth on a 12 year old tire then send a Private Message to Tireman9 on this forum who is a retired tire design engineer and ask him for his expert opinion.

No one can accurately tell you how big the risk is.....you will need to make your own decision on this one!!!

Wow 12 years on motorhome tires. I will look for Toyos when I replace my 5 yr old , starting to crack, Michelins.
I know I'd hate to spend $2200 for new tires when my old ones looked new, but at 12 years old, it seems the odds of at least one, giving it up, at a bad time could be fairly high.
I'm still impressed with your Toyos though.
I'd trust them on a truck much more than with these fiberglass boxes that have so much unprotected wiring and the plastic bodies just shatter when a tire blows.

On 5/3 under thread "Tire PSI" post #8,Tireman9 posted a great set of pictures of tire problems. It should be a must read for anyone how still has questions about tires.

Just be thankful you're not a "Michelin Junkie", you would be spending another grand.
