Need advice about Awnings

I just drove home with our new Class C RV. It is a Born Free Built for two. We are still working on the deep cleaning but overall it is really nice with all we want in an RV......Except for no awning.

I have been looking at awning for my truck for a while so no all the options there but looking at a simple RV awning I am having trouble finding a basic model. The carefree website talks a lot about all the fancy electric options. We want none of that. We want as simple and reliable to set up with nothing fancy, maybe some lights and the option to add a screen for increased shading. If an attached room is an option that would be nice. We like this setup.

Can anyone suggest a solid basic awning that will be easy to setup, no electrical parts and be compatible with some accessories?

Lastly if I join Good Sam would I get a discount from Camping world on an awning purchase? I also need to buy an EMS still so if these big ticket items are discounted it would be worth the purchase of the membership.

Take a look at these options. Not sure about rooms but I certainly had a sunscreen on mine when we had a manual. There are lots of benefits to KISS with manual awnings.

I would recommend acrylic over vinyl.
Also check prices online and compare w CW. Often you can do better than CW

There may be a catch to the Camping World discount! I'm pretty sure you would get the discount if you go in and buy the awning, but not so sure you would get it if you do a package deal, having them supply AND install it. I would question them on that!

That is my concern often discounts do not apply to large items.

Just gave Camping World my email in exchange for 10% off my first purchase and an awning in my basket is reflecting a discounted price and is roughly $200 less than Shadepro with many more colors to choose from.

I would probably install it myself. I am not sure I was going to buy rightaway but with the 10% discount I might have to as we are figuring going south soon and starting a tour as soon as possible in the spring.

Shade-Pro fan here.. I have their 20' power awning, window awning and interior window blinds. Good to deal with and stand behind their products as well as knowledgable installation.. Prices where very competitive.

Depending on the model of your new to you Born Free you might be out of luck. The hold up is most awnings made for an RV are designed for a flat sided wall to mount on so the arms, roller and such are flush against the side wall once roller up.

You might have to go with something like a Sunsetter Awning but I don't think it will support the screened room hanging from it. An other option that might work is an Easy Up Canopy.

Thanks for pointing that out. I almost ran out and bought what would have would have been wrong for the RV.

In watching videos having an awning is 50/50 on the Born Frees and when they do have one it is always the same looking thing. I took a screen capture of what I see on the born frees. Can you tell if that is that a Sunsetter Awning, if not what is it?

Also because I am looking at a fully manual unit (currently looking at Carefree Fiesta) the bottom bracket is mounted down low. Would the Born Free not work with a Fiesta?

Since you bought this RV new, wasn't having an awning installed at the factory or at the dealer an option before you took possession. Just wondering.

I should have said 'new to us.' The company was one of 3 'quality' manufacturers in the Class C world, now down to one. I think Born Free shut down in 2014 or so as did Lazy Days.

From what I can tell they are very well made and have a cult following. I have reached out to join the Born Free club but have not gotten approval yet. The Born Free Forum does not seem to have a lot of traffic but hopefully they can tell me specifics about the brand and my model. I still have a few more things to figure out.

Like does it have a built in surge protection?
