Need Advice Generator Cover

Lost the cover off my 5500 Onan generator (for the second time). I am on the road and will be dry camping for two nights on the way home. I know the generator can overheat without the cover, so I'm thinking of buying some rolled aluminium and screwing it in place as a temporary fix. What do you think?

By the way, I had put two self-thredding screws into the last cover, but it still came off.

Is there was a Cummins dealer or shop that works on them nearby? They may have one in their graveyard of parts. Can't answer the aluminum question.
Good luck and please update us.

Create secondary attachment.

Short chain or stainless steel cable bolted at both ends with locking hardware or through holes on both parts with crimp on fasteners.

If due to theft look at Southco as they have a lot of options for securing hardware, locking and keyed

If it's been lost 2 times and wasn't because of theft I'd get another proper cover and attach some latches to the sides or top and bottom, depending where the stock connectors are. I suppose a cable or chain would work too, but that might not keep it from coming loose, only keep it from falling out. If chain or cable breaks or lets go as it's dangling it will still turn up gone.

Sell tapping screws are not locking.

You need nut and bolt solution with lock nuts.

Only a couple would be needed to keep cover in place, other screws keep it neat.

You may be able to epoxy studs pointing out to allow locknuts to be used.

Attach photos of what you have
