Need help in determining the SIZE (diameter) of Exhaust.

Under the category of "STUFF HAPPENS", while driving to Tucson, my tail pipe fell off from the muffler to the end of the chrome extension. The wind was blowing a gale, so we didn't notice it until we got to our destination.

I have a 1999 Dutch Star MH with the side radiator. The exhaust tip comes out the passenger side very near the rear passenger side of the MH.

At the muffler, the diameter is 5", but if my memory serves me correctly, the exhaust tip is 3"--4" in diameter. I am pretty sure that it is NOT 5".

Secondly, does the reducer in the elbow coming out of the muffler? There is only about 10" from the end of the muffler to the end of the MH, so if it DOES reduce, it doesn't have much room to do it.

Does anyone have a similar model MH that could check theirs, and measure it or even better, measure it and send a picture.

THANKS! and have a Blessed Thanksgiving!

Your outlet is 4". What happened is the outlet broke away from the muffler, likely because it is rusted out. A new muffler is the way to fix it.
I had this happen to mine and got a welding shop to tack an extension on as a temp fix until I got a new muffler but there was not much to weld too.

There are many sources but I went to Spartan and ordered one along with the chrome extension that is a direct replacement that did not require any mounting modification.

P\S, when you remove the old muffler, you will likely see how rusted out it really is.

My reply is on the escapees forum in your thread there. It would be counterproductive to reduce exhaust size downstream of the turbo, as getting the hot exhaust gas away as quickly as possible is the object of a diesel engines performance.

We ended up getting it fixed in Tucson at Exhaust Works on Broadway for about
$ 230.00 including a 5" chrome exhaust tip.
