New light fixture over the sink in kitchen

I beat the bushes to find a replacement for our light fixture. Finally found one that "will do".

I have a 40' Sportscoach MH. Can I use a lighting fixture that I have my eyes on at The Home Deport It's not rated for AC AND battery power use. I assume that I can hook it up and use it when we're plugged into a power pedestal at a CG. Of no use when boondocking. Am I right so far??

The new fixture has a black wire, a white wire, and a yellow/green ground wire. My MH only have a black wire and a white wire coming out from the bottom of the upper cupboard and going into the fixture being replaced. Can I ignore the use of the ground wire? If not, where do I run it to? There's no electrical box behind my existing fixture so there's no screwing it the ground wire to the metal box. Please advise. Thanx

Doubtful. The one that is currently in your coach is powered by 12v DC. When you're plugged into shore power, the 120v AC goes through your converter to provide 12V DC to that fixture. There is no 120V power there. You would have to completely rewire from the fuse box to do what you want to do.

MUCH easier to purchase the correct fixture for 12V.

BTW - - I googled for an answer to my question and I needed the knowledge of a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to understand the various attempts to explain RV electrical systems. So please, keep it simple. Next move is to hire a professional to do something that I would complete in my home.

Convert the new light you want to 12 volts. Post a pic on here and I know some of us can give you ideas 💡.

"Papawto5"......Is this a ceiling light you're trying to replace, or an under cabinet light. If it's under cabinet, you have lots of options.

thanx for the feedback. I've decided to bite the bullet and order a light fixture designed for a RV. Going with ThinLite brand that's offered by Camping World on the internet only at their website. $115.00 It's LED and adjusts in brightness.

Thinlite is a good quality brand and should serve you well. They've been around forever.

Since you already have 12vdc at the fixture location, and you found a household fixture that you like, simply wire it in (black wire to your RV's black, white wire to your RV's white, & ignore the fixture's green wire) and use a 12vdc bulb with a standard size base in your new household fixture. Here's an example of one: https://www.amazon.com/Sunthin-Incan...BDTNSMDSADN8HH

You'll be happy with that!
