New to the RV Community - Airstream Questions

I'm new to the RV Forum. I've never owned a motorhome or trailer, however I'm looking forward to buying one.

I'm very interested in purchasing a 2016 Airstream Interstate Grand Tour EXT. The motorhome has only 5,700 miles! An elderly woman sold the AI to a local RV dealer in Denver a couple of months ago. She was the original owner.

The dealer list price is $139,995. I want to get the group's opinion on the price? The AI is in new condition but doesn't have any upgrades such as air suspension etc.. The Manufacturers List Price when the motorhome was new was $155,000.

Since the vehicle is in mint condition this motorhome seems like a great value. Your thoughts? I appreciate any feedback.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum.

You are joining a good group of friends here with good information to share. Read the various threads here and ask questions as they come up or add information if you can.

Price seems high to me but I am sure it is negotiable. Good luck and enjoy the adventure!

It's 5-6 years old and very low mileage. I'd be real curious to see if the oil was ever changed. I'd negotiate new tires as well as a full service. It's been sitting nearly it's entire life, which isn't really a good thing.

WELCOME to iRV2.com
First, you need to understand that this is the best SELLERS market-ever, and that means that used RVs are bring a huge premium over what they would have sold for just a year or 2 ago. Under "normal" circumstances, a new MH sells for between 20 to 30 % OFF of MSRP, assuming the original buyer knows how to play the game-NOBODY paid near list prices-until recently. Some will tell you the days are over for getting a new coach for 25% OFF, but I don't think that is true, IF you deal with an honest ethical dealer.

All that said, ANY motorhome that has sat around not being used will have LOTS of PM needs and sometimes that can add up to THOUSANDS of $$ just to get it ready for travel. I don't know what chassis that Airstream was built on, but assuming it is a gasser, it will be a Ford F53 chassis, with ford motor and ford tranny. ALL of them are meant to be driven, and IMO, that is a very high price for a coach that is being depreciated at only 3% per year. It decreased more than 20% the first year after purchase.

But, hey, it is your money.......

I did some quick research and found it is most likely a Class B van camper on a MB "Sprinter" chassis, so you may want to do some research in the MB chassis sub-forum, HERE:

Also, you can comparison shop for that exact model at: WWW.RVTRADER.COM

IMHO....Sounds like crazy high priced, more than it should have sold for new with just a bit negotiation.
If market softens and run up miles you'll get crushed.
