Noisy heat pump
I have a 2012 34tga Open Road.
I turned on my heat pump last night and it has gotten very noisey, it was never quiet. Anyway, it almost sounds like something has come loose. Any suggestions on what I should look for when I get on the roof to check it out and before I call a tech. It is a Dometic but I'm not sure of the size. I am in AZ and the temps lately have dropped into the low 40s and high 30s at night. TIA

If capable get on the roof and take the cover off the AC unit. Then try and turn the motor by hand and watch the fan blades to see if they get close to anything.
in 2015 the front AC on coach started to pull high amps and also made a noise. Found the motor was almost locked up, so bought a new one. When I was changing it out I found that the rubber motor supports where shot, allowing the fan blades to hit. Changed motor and rubber mounts and that fixed the problem.
Fast forward to 2021, the rear AC started to make a noise. Was going to be proactive and change motor and the mounts but I could not find a new motor but did replace the mounts.
After thinking about the issue I decided to go ahead and change both AC's, they were +20 years old and had quite a few hours on them. The last trip I took both AC's running in very hot weather would not cool the coach down. Miserable and since my wife travels with dogs I had to do something.!
So I replaced both with 15K BTU high capacity heat pumps and opted for the MicroAir thermostat which has Bluetooth and WIFI communication. New units worked great. Last year wife was in +95F heatwave plugged into 30 amp so could only run one AC but it kept the coach 76F. MicroAir has alerts so I could keep track of temps also.

I will plan on getting up on the roof today and check that out. It gives me a good idea of what to look for. Mavis

My experience is with a 9 month old Coleman Mach AC with a Heat Pump.
From the initial installation, when running the Heat Pump, it definitely makes more noise than when running the AC. Mine doesn't sound like any loose items, just louder.
Run the unit in the AC mode and see if it makes the same sounds.
I'll second what jacwjames said about the MicroAir Thermostat.

Noisey heat pump
I'm not sure why but my heat pump has quieted down. I went up on the roof and check for anything loose bit didn't find any issues. All I can think is something must have gotten into the fan blades. When I opened it up whatever was there came out. I did clean around the shroud but it's mostly dust. Thank you for your responses, I will keep in mind replacing the unit.

If it gets noisy again, I would look at 2 things: the blower motor squirrel cage (cylinder fan). Almost all are plastic. Over time that plastic gets brittle and breaks. It is located inside the half round cover toward the front of the AC, after you take the outside cover off. Coleman sells the squirrel cage. Check Amazon.
Check the blower motor bushings. The rubber bushings break down over time and fail. You can test by trying to move the motor around (up/ down, side to side). It should only move a very little amount. Unfortunately, Coleman doesn't sell the the bushings.
