I use the Delco PF1218 1qt oil filter so it takes 7 qts even. Never had to add oil between changes. But I'm anal about that and NEVER go more than 3k before I change it.

There is no such thing as a maint. free engine! An inturnal combustion engine has to us a small amount of oil to lubricate the cylinder walls.

My 8.1 after an oil change will go bout 3K miles before I need to add oil but after that it uses about a quart every 1K miles. My MH has 30K miles on it and I changed the oil every 3K miles untill It got 20K miles on it. I now change my oil every 5K miles because all I do is hyway driving and thats not as hard on an engine as city driving.

On vehicles using 5W20 oil, the oil will often vaporize a quart in 1 or 2 thousand miles. That leaves what's left thicker.

[QUOTE=iRV4FUN;874239]Wish I could get a cheepo 36 buck oil change! I'd hand the mechanic Mobile1 and smile

Walmart Mobil1 $25.98 5 quart container 1 quart extra $4.98 = $30.96
do it yourself; can't beat that price.
Add a filter for $5.00 and your ready to go.
Buy a grease gun; and grease for about $10.00 grease it yourself,
save yourself enough to buy a couple of gallons of gas.
